You read that right. Earlier today, The Trump Organization announced the launch of Trump Mobile — a mobile phone service and a Trump-branded smartphone. While President Trump hasn’t directly commented on the new venture, his sons, Eric and Don Jr., took center stage earlier today.

The 47 Plan

“The 47 Plan” offers 5G service through all major cellular carriers and is available for any smartphone. It’s $47.45/month (memorializing his election as the 45th and 47th President of the United States). Customers can make the switch by contacting a real person at customer service based in the United States, 24 hours a day. The 47 Plan highlights include the following, although it is likely there are additional fees for some items.

  • Unlimited talk, text, data
  • Complete device protection
  • 24/7 roadside assistance through Drive America
  • Telehealth services like virtual care and prescription delivery
  • Free international calling to 100+ countries and many American military bases
  • No contracts or credit checks

Trump Mobile will supply the SIM card to put inside your existing phone if you want to switch to the plan.

To learn if your device is compatible, locate the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number, which you can find the IMEI on your iPhone by dialing *#06# or by going to Settings > General > About. Once you’ve located it, you can input the number on the Trump Mobile 47 Plan Site to check compatibility.

The ‘T1 Phone’

Trump Mobile will be releasing its first smartphone in August, the Android 15-based T1 Phone. It’s available now for preorder for a downpayment of $100. The full price of the phone is $499, a relative bargain when compared to the cheapest iPhone, the iPhone 16E, which starts at $600.

The gold T1 will include the following features:

  • 6.8-inch Punch Hole AMOLED screen
  • 120 Hz refresh rate
  • 50 MP main camera, 2 MP depth sensor, 2 MP macro lens, 16 MP selfie camera
  • Fingerprint sensor and AI Face Unlock
  • 12 GB RAM and 256 GB expandable storage
  • 5,000 mAh battery
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack

For a quick comparison, the upcoming iPhone 17 is expected to feature a 6.1-inch screen, 8 GB RAM (12 GB for Pro models) with a base storage of 128 GB, a 48 MP primary camera, and a 3,200 mAh battery for Pro models. On paper, the T1 holds its own, but time will tell when it comes to real-world utility and functionality.

The Trump Organization is touting The 47 Plan and T1 Phone as affordable, reliable, and made in America. Many publications have raised ethical concerns around that pesky Emoluments Clause from the US Constitution. Its primary purpose is to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure federal officials prioritize the interests of the United States over potential gains from foreign entities or domestic sources.

Note the conspicuous disclaimer at the bottom of the press release:

Trump Mobile, its products and services are not designed, developed, manufactured, distributed or sold by The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals. T1 Mobile LLC uses the “Trump” name and trademark pursuant to the terms of a limited license agreement which may be terminated or revoked according to its terms.

So, who’s really running T1 Mobile LLC?

It’s hard not to smell a bit of smoke here, but fortunately, we’re mostly interested in how the T1 will perform head-to-head with the iPhone 17.
