Logitech Announces Clever New Flip Folio for iPad

In what seems like a timely announcement for Apple’s iPadOS 26 improvements, Logitech has just unveiled the Flip Folio, a new all-in-one keyboard case that lets you make the most of your iPad while on the go.
The release is likely more fortuitous than anything else. We’re not sure if Logitech had any special insider info from Apple here, but like most products, Flip Folio has been in the works for much longer than we’ve been hearing iPadOS 26 rumors. Logitech briefed us on the new accessory and sent me an early release version nearly two weeks ago.
The Flip Folio is a protective case that features magnetic attachments for an iPad Air or iPad Pro, similar to Apple’s Magic Keyboard case. It also has the added bonus of using a fully detached Bluetooth keyboard.
The low-profile keyboard magnetically clips onto the back of the case when not in use so that you can carry it with you, but mostly ignore it when tapping or using an Apple Pencil. The magnets are strong enough to keep it securely in place while letting you pop it off when you need to do some typing.
The keyboard quality is also what you’d expect from Logitech, which has been in the keyboard business for decades. The keys are comfortable and responsive, and all the usual iPadOS shortcut keys are here for controlling brightness, volume, media playback, and even calling up an emoji picker or taking screenshots.
The keyboard can also be paired with two other Bluetooth devices, letting you easily switch between an iPad, iPhone, and Mac. This is where another clever aspect of the Flip Folio comes into play. In addition to magnetically attaching an iPad in the usual landscape orientation, there’s also a ledge to prop it upright, letting you work at that angle while leaving room to set your iPhone alongside it. The iPad and iPhone don’t magnetically attach in these positions; instead, the Flip Folio offers a small ledge they can rest on.
“We’ve designed Flip Folio to make the iPad experience both fun and functional, helping you stay focused on what matters,” said Joseph Mingori, GM of mobile and audio solutions at Logitech. “Flip Folio enhances everyday experiences–from binge watching to checking your social media or emails– by delivering portability and connectivity, setting people free so they can do what they love from anywhere.”
The case has a fully adjustable kickstand, which is where the keyboard magnetically attaches, providing easy access when you want to dash off a quick email in between sketching or watching YouTube videos. The standalone keyboard lets you prop the iPad up separately for more versatility. For example, it was nice to set up the iPad at eye level with the keyboard on a table rather than hunkering down over it like I often need to do with traditional iPad keyboard cases. I imagine a similar approach could also work while traveling on a plane, where the Flip Folio case could sit on the tray table while the keyboard rests in your lap.
You also won’t need to worry about recharging the keyboard. Instead of a lithium-ion battery, Logitech has opted to use a CR2016 coin cell that promises two years of life for most typical users. As a result, there are no ports on the keyboard and no cables to mess with. If you’re a frequent traveler, you may want to keep an extra battery on hand after you’ve been using it for a while. Still, even if you don’t have one, these are usually pretty easy to find, and it’s much quicker to change the battery than finding a power outlet and waiting for your keyboard to recharge so you can get back to work. I think it’s another clever approach. Like Apple’s decision to go with coin cells in its AirTags, sometimes the seemingly more basic solutions are the most practical.
The Flip Folio is available in both 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. However, each size can be used with an iPad Air or iPad Pro, as they’ll adapt to the thickness of each tablet. The 11-inch version officially supports iPad Air models as far back as the 2022 fifth-generation model — the first to feature an M1 chip — and only the latest M4 iPad Pro. However, there’s no reason to believe it wouldn’t work with older iPad Air and iPad Pro models that share the same design. For example, the 2020 iPad Air has identical dimensions to the 2022 model, and both can use the same Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad Air.
The 11-inch version sells for $160, while the 13-inch version is $180. Both will eventually come in five colors: Graphite, Midnight Black, and Pale Grey are available now, with the latter exclusively on Logitech’s website. Lilac is listed as coming soon, and Logitech tells us a Sand version will also be released in September. The Graphite and Midnight Black have light blue accents on the keyboard, while the Pale Grey uses orange accents, and the Lilac will use a deeper purple.
