Banks, retail stores, sports venues, grocery stores, amusement parks, and now airlines – JetBlue recently announced that they will be the first airline to support Apple Pay. Beginning next week, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users will be able to use their phones for in-flight purchases.

If you’ve ever tried to pay for anything on an airplane, you know it can be a hassle – buying food or drinks, or trying to upgrade your seat while fumbling through your pockets or the overhead bin for your wallet or purse can be frustrating. Apple Pay is about to make the whole process much easier. JetBlue announced this morning that they are swapping out older payment terminals with iPad Minis with NFC-compatible cases. Although Wi-Fi will be available for iPhone users on flights as well, no internet connection or cellular data is necessary for the purchases.

JetBlue claims that there is more great news for iPhone-equipped travelers in the future – not only will purchases via the Apple Watch also be supported when the device rolls out in March, but users will be able to use Apple Pay to purchase tickets via the JetBlue iOS app later this year. While JetBlue is the first airline to support Apple Pay, it certainly won’t be the last – other airlines are expected to follow suit in the near future.
