Sony is planning to unveil major details about its upgraded PlayStation 4, codenamed “Neo”, at an upcoming New York City gaming conference taking place on September 7, according to a report by Vice Gaming that cites several anonymous sources.

The event will serve as a technical showcase and live demonstration of what the upgraded hardware can do, The Verge confirms, and will also give spectators a look at its upgraded 4K graphics.

Other than that, very little is known about “Neo”, which is also being called PlayStation 4.5 by Sony insiders, and what modifications and improvements it will bring to the table over the PlayStation 4.

Sony, when it confirmed the plans for an upgraded PlayStation 4 to Financial Times earlier this year, did note that it was intended to complement the original PlayStation 4 and that all forthcoming PlayStation 4 games would be compatible with the older console. Another thing you can be sure about is that the Neo will be more expensive than the PlayStation 4, though the exact price point has yet to be determined.

The PlayStation 4.5 may very well kick off another bout of fisticuffs between Sony and Microsoft, which began selling the Xbox One S recently. The Verge notes that while the Xbox One S is not capable of supporting 4K graphics, Microsoft has plans in the works to debut a 4K-capable gaming console next year.
