Samsung’s woes continue unabated this year. After 21 people sent complaints to the regulatory body, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a warning about Samsung’s top-loading washing machines. They are apparently prone to exploding, much like the Galaxy Note 7, which Samsung only just began replacing a few days ago.

The complaints about Samsung’s washing machines have been coming in over the past year from customers in Indiana, Georgia, and Texas, who have reported instances of the top-loaders catching fire, blowing apart, and in one case, exploding with so much force that it took out a wall.

The reports and clear safety hazards have prompted the CPSC to issue a general warning to owners of Samsung top-loading washing machines, advising them to use low-speed cycles: “CPSC is advising consumers to only use the delicate cycle when washing bedding, water-resistant and bulky items. The lower spin speed in the delicate cycle lessens the risk of impact injuries or property damage due to the washing machine becoming dislodged.”

Samsung, for its part, has also issued a warning to customers, recommending that they limit themselves to using the delicate cycle, as “there have been no reported incidents when using this cycle.”

While front-loading washing models have been unaffected, owners of top-loading washing machines should take precautions and check the Samsung website to see if their model is at risk.
