While it was hyping its new M4 MacBook Pro lineup, Apple revealed that the AAA game Cyberpunk 2077 will be one of the next big games to launch on the Mac. Apple’s MacBook Pro announcement video includes a section about gaming on the new M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max-powered machines.
In the video, Apple announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on Mac sometime in “early” 2025 alongside Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which is expected to arrive in February. The title will join other AAA titles, like Resident Evil 4, which debuted in December 2023, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which launched in June 2024.
Apple says its new M4-powered MacBook Pro lineup will deliver an immersive experience for Cyberpunk 2077 players. It calls it “one of the most graphically demanding and complex games ever created with advanced features like path tracing, frame generation, and built-in spatial audio…”
The gaming portion of the M4 MacBook Pro announcement is at the 10:00-minute mark in the video below.
Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red also shared additional details:
Cyberpunk 2077 and its spy-thriller expansion Phantom Liberty will be coming to Mac. Taking full advantage of Apple silicon and advanced technologies of Metal, the world of the dark future is available to Mac gamers for the very first time. Players can enjoy advanced features like path tracing, frame generation, and built-in Spatial Audio for even more immersive gameplay and stunning visuals.
Available early next year on Macs with Apple silicon, the Ultimate Edition will launch on the Mac App Store, GOG.com, Steam and Epic Games Store.
More details, including a release date for early next year, will be revealed at a later time, so make sure to stay tuned!
In October 2023, Apple announced that it had partnered with major mobile gaming companies to bring titles such as Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage to its devices. Apple had promised that these games would be the full console versions of the games — the same as you’d experience on a PlayStation 5.
At the time, The Verge’s Jay Peters got to try Resident Evil Village on the iPhone and made the following comments:
It’s incredible that Resident Evil Village plays as well as it does on the iPhone. The game is every bit as captivating as when I first played it on the PS5, and I was blown away by how well it translated to the tinier screen. But the game’s graphics aren’t the most interesting thing going on with this release — I’m much more excited for what it might be teasing for Apple gaming in the future
Considering the leap in power offered by Apple’s M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips, the Mac version of Cyberpunk 2077 should be even more impressive than the recent ports to the Mac.
In the above video, Apple also shows other games on their way to the Mac, including:
- Songs of Conquest
- Infinity Nikki
- Prince of Persia: Lost Crown
- Farming Simulator 25
- Robocop Rogue City
- Frostpunk 2
- Sniper Elite 4
- Withering Waves
- World of Warcraft: The War Within
- Civilization VII
- Where the Winds Meet
- Dead Island 2
- Control Ultimate Edition
