James Corden and Ruth Jones have signed a multi-million-dollar deal with Apple TV+ for a follow-up to the popular British comedy series Gavin and Stacey. The series originally aired on the BBC from 2007 to 2010, although Christmas specials were also aired in 2019 and 2024. The show was one of the most successful British sitcoms of all time.

The creators of the show, James Corden and Ruth Jones, have reportedly signed a new deal to bring the project to Apple TV+, rather than its original home, the United Kingdom’s BBC. The pair were convinced to do the follow-up, thanks to a deal valued at approximately 8 million pounds ($10.8 million), the Sun’s sources claim.

Apple was not the sole bidder for the show, as the BBC, Amazon Prime, and Netflix had also been interested in acquiring it. Apple likely had an advantage in the negotiations, thanks to Corden’s existing relationship with Apple TV+, which made an earlier deal with him for Carpool Karaoke.

The ten-episode production will be filmed in the UK. Casting has not yet begun; however, it’s expected to once again boast an all-British cast. While the project is a follow-on to “Gavin and Stacey,” it won’t be using the same characters as the old series, to allow a better jumping-on point for international viewers who may not have seen the original show.

While Corden and Jones will run the new show, it has yet to be announced whether the pair will appear in the new show as the characters they played in the BBC show, “Smithy” and “Nessa,” who married in the finale.

James, 47, is currently in the New York Broadway play Art, while Jones is set to star in an upcoming Netflix thriller Run Away.

“In what has unquestionably been a pretty miserable year for Brits, there is finally something to cheer — a new James and Ruth co-production,” a show insider said. “As you might expect, it is uplifting, gentle and very funny. They wanted to bring something full of heart and warmth back to screens; water cooler moments for all the family.”

For those unfamiliar with the show, Gavin and Stacey was a British sitcom that was created, written by, and starred James Corden and Ruth Jones. The series involved two families: one that resided in Billericay, Essex, and the other that lived in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. Mathew Horne and Joanna Page played the title characters Gavin and Stacey, while Corden and Jones starred as their friends Smithy and Nessa, respectively. Additional roles were played by Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb, who co-starred as Gavin’s parents Pam and Mick, Melanie Walters, who played Stacey’s mother Gwen, and Rob Brydon, who played Stacey’s uncle Bryn.

The story revolved around Gavin and Stacey. Gavin lives with his parents, Pam and Mick. Gavin spent most of his time with his best pal, Smithy. Meanwhile, Stacey lived with her widowed mother, Gwen, and the pair were frequently visited by her uncle, Bryn, who lived across the road, as well as her BFF Nessa. The show followed the key moments in the couple’s relationship. Moments shown included when they first met, when they met each other’s families, got engaged, married, when they went in search of a flat, a brief separation, their job searches, and when they tried to have children.
