Apple TV+ Serves up Kitchen Drama and Cold Danger This Week

In a fun twist, Apple TV+ is globally premiering two wildly different new shows today: a high-stakes kitchen docuseries from the always delightful Gordon Ramsay and a rugged Alaskan thriller led by Jason Clarke.
Both of the new series highlight Apple TV+’s growing range and flair for exploring new and unexpected genres. One is set amid the world’s most elite kitchens, the other in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness.
Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars
Apple announced in May that it had signed a deal with Gordon Ramsay to produce a new eight-episode documentary series hosted by food expert and Topjaw co-founder Jesse Burgess.
The ambitious goal was to explore the “high-stakes world of international fine dining,” by following elite chefs as they work to earn or maintain a coveted Michelin Star.
“There’s no honor in any industry as prestigious and influential as the Michelin Star,” said host Jesse Burgess. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the stories of some of the most exciting restaurants in the world — as they throw everything, including the kitchen sink, at their obsessive quest for the ultimate award.”
Filmed in cities from Los Angeles to London, Mexico City to Copenhagen, each chef attempts to win a Star or face the crushing blow of losing one, as the Michelin Guide’s team of inspectors use false identities and phone numbers to dine anonymously.
On Sunday, Ramsay hosted a group of “culinary legends” in London for an exclusive premiere event for the new series, with contributors traveling from Mexico City, California, Sweden, Italy, Ireland, Denmark, and beyond.
The docuseries also offers a never-before-seen deep dive into the world of Michelin — “including rare, on-the-record interviews with anonymous inspectors,” Apple says, and “the personal stories behind the pursuit of perfection.”
Experience thrilling highs and crushing lows as the world’s best chefs pursue the ultimate accolade: a Michelin Star. These anonymous inspectors have never let anyone in on their mysterious ways, until now.
The first two episodes are available to stream now on Apple TV+. Episode 1, “Some would say he’s a genius,” is about “a fried chicken joint with big ambitions” and “a new restaurant in a subway station,” in New York. Episode 2, “Bleeding cash,” reveals the outcome of the New York Michelin Stars and then heads to Chicago for “a new Mexican-inspired opening.”
Additional episodes will arrive each Friday from October 17 until November 21, and will take the team to elite restaurants in Sweden, Denmark, the UK, Ireland, Mexico, Italy, and California.
Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars is produced for Apple TV+ by Studio Ramsay Global, a Fox Entertainment Company. Executive producers are Ramsay, Lisa Edwards, and Morgan Roberts.
The Last Frontier
If Knife Edge turns up the heat, Apple’s second premiere of the week cools things right back down — but the stakes remain just as high. In The Last Frontier, Jason Clarke portrays Frank Remnick, a lone US marshal in the Alaskan wilderness who is suddenly faced with a collection of violent criminals who have escaped from a prison transport plane.
Apple first announced this deal in early 2023, but as with most original shows, the journey from concept to reality takes some time.
As the plot unfolds, Remnick begins to suspect the crash may not have been an accident, ramping up the stakes from merely protecting his town from the escaped inmates to the implications of what could be a “well-crafted plan with far-reaching and devastating implications.”
Alongside Clarke, who is best known for Oppenheimer and Zero Dark Thirty, the show also stars Dominic Cooper (Preacher, Mamma Mia!), Haley Bennett (The Girl on the Train), Simone Kessell (Yellowjackets), Dallas Goldtooth (Reservation Dogs), Tait Blum (Sweet Tooth), and Academy Award nominee and multi-Emmy Award winner Alfre Woodard (Luke Cage, Clemency).
The Last Frontier is produced directly by Apple Studios and executive produced by Jon Bokenkamp (The Blacklist) and Richard D’Ovidio (The Call), who also serve as writers, alongside Clarke, Laura Benson (Your Honor), Glenn Kessler (Damages), Albert Kim (Avatar: The Last Airbender), and series episodic director Sam Hargrave (Extraction).
Apple is debuting The Last Frontier today with two episodes out of the gate, which are available now on Apple TV+. The first season will have the usual ten-episode run, with new episodes each Friday from October 17 until December 5.
From simmering kitchens to subzero showdowns, Apple TV+ continues to serve up a little something for every taste — and this weekend’s menu looks especially good.
