This week, Apple announced the renewal of two comedy series, both new and old, that have proven to be popular with both viewers and critics. The Studio and Trying will return for new seasons on Apple TV+
Trying
Trying was one of the earliest comedy series’ on Apple TV+, with the first episode debuting on May 1, 2020, exactly six months after Apple launched its streaming service. The entertaining series follows a British couple, Nikki (BAFTA Award nominee Esther Smith) and Jason (SAG Award nominee Rafe Spall), as they do their best to have their own child, ultimately deciding to adopt.
All Nikki and Jason want is a baby — the one thing they can’t have. So they choose to adopt a girl, Princess, but also end up with adopting her younger brother, Tyler, as part of the package. With their dysfunctional friends, dramatic relatives, and chaotic lives, will the couple succeed in building the family of their dreams?
Season five finds Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall) dealing with Princess and Tyler’s biological mother Kat (Charlotte Riley), who has turned up at their doorstep, and how they handle the “whirlwind of chaos she brings into their settled family life.”

The BBC Studios-produced series has earned an impressive average Rotten Tomatoes score of 95% from critics and an equally impressive 93% score from viewers. The show has been hailed as a “feel-good,” “poignant” and “addictive” comedy that is “one of Apple TV+’s sweetest treats.”
While Apple has confirmed that Trying will be returning for a fifth season, an exact timeframe for the fifth season premiere has not been announced.
The ensemble cast includes BAFTA Award winner Darren Boyd as Scott, Siân Brooke as Karen, Scarlett Rayner as Princess, and Cooper Turner as Tyler. The show is created, written and executive produced by Andy Wolton, while BAFTA Award nominees Josh Cole and Sam Pinnell are executive producing alongside Chris Sussman.

The first four seasons of Trying are now available for streaming on Apple TV+.
The Studio
The Studio is a new series that’s still in its first-season run after debuting on March 26, 2025. It’s a workplace comedy that offers a satirical (and hilarious) look behind the scenes of Hollywood’s film industry. Seth Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the newly-appointed head of Continental Studios. While the show’s first season still has three episodes remaining, Apple has already announced that it will be returning for a second season. A firm second-season premiere date has not yet been announced.
While The Studio has earned a favorable 93% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, the show’s audience score is a respectable but not dazzling score of 70%.

The Studio boasts a star-studded ensemble cast led by Rogen, Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe Award winner Catherine O’Hara, Emmy Award nominee Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders, with Emmy Award-winning guest star Bryan Cranston also making appearances. A lineup of cameos from Hollywood celebrities, including actors, directors, and producers, also appear throughout the season.
“We’re thrilled to be making a second season of The Studio,” said creators and executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. “We’re looking forward to taking the lived experience of making season one and immediately putting it into season two, then repeating that loop for 10 more seasons. And, we’re excited to keep all our industry friends and colleagues guessing as to when one of their personal stories will stream on Apple TV+.”
