Apple TV+ Confirms Another Round for its Hit Golf Comedy

Apple has renewed its popular golf comedy Stick for a second round, as the Owen Wilson-led underdog comedy has proven to be a hit, earning a renewal.
The first season finale of the comedy debuted on Wednesday, and fans of the show will be glad to know they’ll be able to continue to root for Wilson’s Pryce Cahill and the rest of his somewhat motley crew.
From the company’s press release:
Today, Apple TV+ announced that its widely celebrated, beloved sports comedy hit, “Stick,” starring and executive produced by Owen Wilson and created by Jason Keller, has been renewed for a second season with more heart, laughs and new characters, as well as the return of the ensemble cast including Wilson, Peter Dager, Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño and Lilli Kay.
The renewal is equivalent to making a 30-foot putt for birdie, as Jason Keller, creator of the show, indicated in an interview with Deadline published yesterday that he wasn’t sure if the show would make the cut. However, he does have some ideas about where the fairways and roughs of a second season would take Stick and his group:
I’m still thinking about precisely what Season 2 would be. I would love to see Pryce Cahill playing high level golf. It would be fun to see Owen out there, playing in a tournament and seeing just how good this guy is. His story sort of ended with him being 18th in the nation before his life sort of fell apart. So you always ask a question about a guy like that whose career was cut short for one reason or the other, “How good could he have been if he would have kept playing?” That’s something that I’d want to explore in Season 2 for sure.
Of course, we don’t know for sure when the interview took place, and it may have occurred quite a while ago, with Apple only recently giving the green light for another season.
Stick has rightfully been compared to another Apple TV+ hit comedy, Ted Lasso. While Stick hasn’t proven to be quite as popular as the soccer-themed comedy, it has proven to be enough of a hit with both critics and the audience to justify another round.

Stick’s premise is comparable to Lasso, with both featuring an underdog central character that proves that maybe he can be a winner after all. Stick’s plot is as follows:
In “Stick,” Wilson stars as Pryce Cahill, an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago. After the collapse of his marriage and getting fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store, Pryce hedges his bets, and future, entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom named Santi (Peter Dager). “Stick” is a heartfelt, feel-good sports comedy about a found family and their relationships set within the world of golf as it has never been shown before.
If you haven’t watched Stick yet, I strongly suggest you do so. While the comedy won’t surprise you (you’ll see some of the plot points coming from three holes away), you really won’t mind, as Wilson and his compadres do an excellent job with the material they’re given, especially the always funny Marc Maron.
Since it appears that Stick’s season two plotline is not yet complete, we may see a slight delay between its first season finale and the second season premiere. But, isn’t that traditional with Apple TV+ series?
