It’s time once again to take a look at the Apple Crime Log, where we report the latest criminal misadventures connected with Apple products and services. This time around, cops recover $320,000 worth of stolen Apple products, and guess which tablet was Jeffrey Epstein’s favorite?
Cops Recover $320K of Stolen Apple Products
Police in two states teamed up to recover around $320,000 worth of Apple products that were stolen from a tractor-trailer in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Six suspects have been arrested in the theft.
ABC 27 reports that six people opened the trailer and unloaded the shipment, which consisted of “mostly iPads” bound for a warehouse. The alleged thieves departed in two vehicles, which were later stopped by state police in two separate states.
Police said they were aware of an organized cargo theft ring targeting Apple products. Police, who were already investigating the ring, had previously placed tracking devices on the two involved vehicles, a Ford transit van and a Kia, because they were used together in prior thefts.
One of the vehicles was stopped on the Pennsylvania Turnpike by Pennsylvania State Police, while the other was stopped by New Jersey State Police.
Six people, ranging in age from their early 20s to 40s, face charges of theft and conspiracy: Guillermo Cavero, Josue Penafiel-Murillo, Isreal Hernandez, Justin Largo, Miguel Oyola-Coronel, and Jose Rivera.
Rivera and Oyola-Coronel are currently residing in Cumberland County Prison due to a lack of bail funds. They face preliminary hearings on Nov. 12. The other four have yet to be arraigned in Cumberland County.
‘Every Single One’ of Newly-Released Jeffrey Epstein Emails Sent From iPads
A large cache of emails sent to and received from influential people associated with the late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was recently released by a Congressional committee.
According to Jacob Shamsian of Business Insider, “every single one” of these emails was sent from an iPad.
Shamsian says the FBI seized 6 iPads from Epstein’s Manhattan mansion. “He just had them scattered around to do emails.”
Many of the emails from Epstein have “sent from my iPad” at the bottom, and one of the Gmail addresses used by Epstein was named “Jeeitunes.”
FedEx Worker Allegedly Stole 26 Apple Products
According to ABC 27, Osvaldo Bou, a 37-year-old worker at a FedEx Freight facility in Lower Swatara Township, PA, has been accused of stealing 26 Apple products valued at nearly $13,000.
Among the stolen items were 13 Apple Watches, six iPhones, five Apple Watch bands, and a MacBook. No word on whether he was also caught with a partridge in a pear tree.
Police say the man was “seen on camera pilfering through a shipment.” When he was confronted, 10 of the Apple Watch boxes were found hidden in his yellow safety vest.
After Bou was fired, he agreed to meet his employers at a Bass Pro Shop. There, he led them to some of the stolen items, which were in a backpack on one side of the building. He faces a felony theft charge.
Philadelphia Concert Goers See Stolen iPhones End Up in China
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that, recently, concertgoers in Philadelphia have experienced large-scale iPhone thefts. When the victims later check the devices’ locations via Find My iPhone, they find their iPhones had made the trip to China.
The reports say that one show had more than 100 iPhones taken. Some of the theft victims report seeing their phones first appear in New York and New Jersey, then later in Hong Kong or Shenzhen.
A law enforcement spokesperson told the newspaper that there is “not much that can be done once a phone is stolen.” (Thank you, Officer Obvious)
