In a timely release for Apple’s latest iPhone 17 Pro models, Adobe has just launched Adobe Premiere for iPhone, bringing its powerful video editor into the palm of your hand.
As the name suggests, this isn’t an “Lite” or “Express” version of its desktop tool. Adobe is billing it as the full “Premiere” experience, which demonstrates how powerful today’s iPhones have become as sophisticated video editing tools.
That’s especially true of the iPhone 17 Pro models, which do more to earn their “Pro” designation each year. Features in Apple’s latest flagships include support for the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES), ProRes RAW video capture, and even genlock synchronization — tools that everyday creators will likely never touch, but show just how far the iPhone Pro has moved into the realm of professional studio gear. As Apple and the MLB demonstrated during last week’s Friday Night Baseball opener, the iPhone 17 Pro is edging into territory once reserved for high-end broadcast cameras.
It’s little surprise that Adobe wants to get in on the action, but what’s great is that Premiere for iPhone is a free download from the App Store, and while it integrates smoothly with the desktop version of Premiere Pro, it’s fully capable as a standalone mobile editor.
Adobe is pitching Premiere as a standalone mobile version of the full app:
The new mobile app brings precision editing on a lightning-fast multi-track timeline, studio-quality audio with crystal clear voiceovers, perfectly timed AI sound effects, the ability to generate one-of-a-kind content with Adobe’s commercially safe Firefly models and more
Several early reviewers have already been impressed with what it can do. “It’s like having a production studio in my pocket,” YouTuber and journalist Cleo Abram of the Huge If True YouTube channel said in Adobe’s press release.
Adobe Premiere on iPhone gives the average professional YouTuber or other video producer everything they need to work on mobile, including support for frame-accurate 4K HDR editing, animated captions, motion effects, background removal tools, and a lightning-fast multi-track timeline with support for an unlimited number of tracks.
There are also some impressive audio features built in, relying on AI tools to enhance speech and create AI-generated sound effects. Adobe’s Firefly AI will also let you create unique assets directly on your iPhone, including stickers, expanded backgrounds, and more.
Finished projects can be exported to any social media platform with a single tap, and the video can be intelligently resized for each platform’s unique presentation, keeping the main action centred in the frame. Of course, you can also send your work into the desktop version of Premiere Pro for those times when you need to perform more sophisticated edits or simply want to work on a larger screen.
Adobe Premiere for iPhone is available as a free download from the App Store. However, while there are no restrictions on core editing features or things like watermarking in the free version, your cloud storage and use of the generative AI features in Adobe Firefly will be limited unless you’re willing to purchase individual credits or subscribe to the “Adobe Premiere Mobile Plan” for $7.99 monthly or $69.99 annually.

The mobile plan also doesn’t include access to the desktop version of Adobe Premiere Pro. However, if you already pay for Premiere Pro via Creative Cloud, you won’t need to stack the mobile plan on top. Existing Creative Cloud subscriptions include generative credits and cloud services, which carry over into the iPhone app as long as users are signed in with the same Adobe ID.
