What Is an ‘Apple Core User,’ and Are You One?

Apple fans come from all walks of life and have many different approaches to the company’s technology. There are casual users who probably don’t consider themselves Apple fans, but still own an iPhone because everyone seems to have one. There are also fans who are part of the Apple ecosystem but don’t necessarily rush to update their setup with every new release.
On the other end of the spectrum are the hardcore Apple fans — the ones that the company loves so much because they drive the most sales.
How much money do you have to spend in order to be considered a “casual” or “hardcore” Apple fan? Well, believe it or not, there’s an answer for that. Let’s break it down.
Apple’s Core Users: The 20% Driving 80% of Cupertino’s Profits
Apple analyst website Above Avalon recently shared the reality behind Apple’s core fans. Its report shows how Apple has over a billion users across over 1.4 billion devices around the world.
It should come as no surprise to anyone that the US is one of Apple’s biggest markets. In the region, you’ll find the core users who generate the company’s most significant yearly profits.
How much do you have to spend on Apple a year to be considered a core Apple user? Well, the report has an answer, and the numbers are quite interesting.
- To start, you have those who spend an average of only $25 per year. These users represent around 200 million people who own an iPhone.
- At the second tier are the people who exclusively own an iPhone and upgrade every four years or so. These users represent 620 million of Apple’s users in the market, and they spend on average $260 per year.
- Last but not least, you have the “core Apple users.” These users spend money on different products and subscriptions that amount to a total of $500 per year, on average. These users comprise approximately 180 million, or around 18 percent of Apple’s total user base.
If you do the math, you’ll notice that Apple makes, on average, $5 billion from the most casual users, $161.2 billion from the iPhone-exclusive users, and $90 billion from the core Apple users. Combine all of those numbers, and you get a total of 256.2 billion — or a thousand times more money than most of us will ever see in our lifetimes.
Needless to say, Apple is doing pretty well for itself. Even if iPhone sales are declining, Apple still offers a wide range of products and services that generate substantial revenue throughout the year.
Which Apple Fan Are You?
We’re not judging here. If you can afford to be a hardcore Apple fan, then by all means enjoy yourself. After all, it’s not our fault that our hobbies are so expensive.
However, now you know if you’re a really core Apple user or not. You can share this information with pride, or use it to change the way you spend your money. Just know that you’re not alone; there are literally millions like us, and some of us here at iDrop News spend considerably more than even the average “core Apple user.”
