Amazon is once again kicking off Black Friday early this year, opening November with a deal on the latest Apple Watch SE 3 that’s hard to pass up.

It’s somewhat rare for recently released Apple products to see deep discounts, even on Black Friday, but the most affordable Apple Watch is now even more affordable with a discount that brings it down to as low as $199.99.

It’s not a huge drop from its usual $249 price tag, but it could be enough to tip the scales, especially for those who are in the market for an Apple Watch on a budget.

The Apple Watch SE 3

Apple introduced the Apple Watch SE lineup in 2020 as a more wallet-friendly option for those who wanted an Apple Watch primarily for its core productivity and fitness features. This year’s third-generation model follows that trend, but it also adds some impressive quality-of-life improvements that bring it much closer to its more premium siblings.

For example, the Apple Watch SE 3 finally adds the Always-On Retina Display that’s been standard on every mainstream Apple Watch model since its debut on the Series 5 in 2019. While it was understandable that the original 2020 Apple Watch SE missed out on what was a relatively new feature at the time, its absence from the 2022 model was disappointing.

Apple Watch SE 3 vs SE 2

Thankfully, the Apple Watch SE 3 rectifies that. While not everyone is a fan of always-on displays on the iPhone, anyone who’s fumbled to check the time on an older Apple Watch knows what a difference an always-on display makes.

The Apple Watch SE 3 also packs in the same S10 chip found in the Apple Watch Series 10, Series 11, and Ultra 3, which means you’ll get access to advanced features like the new double-tap and wrist flick gestures, on-device Siri with access to health data, and even sleep apnea notifications.

It’s also no slouch in the fitness department, with features that put it almost on par with the more expensive models. This includes low cardio fitness notifications, the same collection of over 100 workout types, a built-in compass and altimeter, support for waypoints and backtrack for outdoor hikes, and water resistance for swimming workouts.

Apple also hasn’t left out all the health features on the Apple Watch SE. While you won’t get advanced features like ECG, Blood Oxygen monitoring, or hypertension notifications, you still get high and low heart-rate alerts, irregular rhythm notifications for atrial fibrillation, and now a wrist temperature sensor that enhances sleep tracking and cycle tracking.

All this makes the Apple Watch SE 3 a better deal than ever for folks who just want to track their workouts and are less concerned about monitoring every aspect of their health. If you want to save even more, Amazon still has limited stock of the Apple Watch SE 2 on what’s effectively a closeout sale for $169. But unless you’re on a very tight budget, the Apple Watch SE 3 is the smarter buy — and well worth the extra $30.
