Some recent rumors surrounding new Apple products may have just become much more credible. A new report by the consistently credible Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac states that Apple is planning a March 2016 event to unveil two oft-rumored products – the Apple Watch 2 and the iPhone 6c.

While talk of a second-generation Apple Watch began as soon as the first generation was released, a report that surfaced last month from China’s United Daily News pointed to statement made by Barry Lam, chairman of Apple Watch manufacturers Quanta Computer, mentioning a second-generation Apple Watch that would likely debut by the second quarter of 2016. While the original report made no specific statements about the Apple Watch 2 aside from a possible release date, Lam was quoted as saying that the device would “feature fully upgraded hardware and software.”

On-again, off-again rumors of a new iPhone returning to the 4-inch form factor of the 5s and previous models date back to last December. Photos purportedly featuring the “leaked” casing of an iPhone 6c appeared in March, with many speculating that the device would appear alongside the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in September.

After the September 9th iPhone event came and went with no sign of the 6c, talk of the device died down a bit – that is, until trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities made several predictions about the iPhone 6c, including an early 2016 release date. Kuo stated in November that the iPhone 6c, which will likely lack 3D Touch technology, will “resemble an upgraded iPhone 5s” with a metal casing, and that the device would be powered by an A9 chip – the same chip found in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

While the predicted release dates of these two devices ranged from January to April of 2016, Gurman’s recent report points to a March 2016 event that would see the launch of both devices. An event this coming March would mark the second March event in a row for Apple, who typically saves their big releases for fall events.

Apple’s “Spring Forward” event this past March saw the release of the 12-inch Macbook, the release of iOS 8.2, and the release date and pricing of the original Apple Watch. The release of the Apple Watch 2 and an iPhone 6c could be key in keeping Apple’s momentum going after a huge 2015 year.
