Apple has released an iPhone remote app that works as a companion with Apple TV for the general public’s viewing pleasure. The app, which is available on the App Store currently, allows viewers with Apple TVs to take complete control of their entertainment needs through their iPhones, making it a great lazy Sunday companion.
The app requires Wi-Fi connection to Apple TV and iOS 9.3.2 or later. An additional note to take into consideration is that the app is only compatible with second, third, and fourth generation Apple TVs, according to The Verge.
The app is a fully functional and full-fledged remote, giving you the ability to control an Apple TV with a simple swipe of the finger or keystroke texts. The keyboard text functionality is especially useful, allowing you to quickly enter passwords, emails, and text into your Apple TV through your iPhone. Unfortunately the app has yet to be optimized for iPads, appearing as a windowed iPhone app.
The new app replaces an older version of the iTunes remote app, but it no longer has the ability to control iTunes on Mac devices from your iPhone.
The remote app is also compatible with Siri remote which gives users access to Siri’s entertainment recommendations. Finally, the remote app permits users to play games using the accelerometer and gyroscope as well as on Game Mode, according to the Apple website.
