Among the many cool new features of iOS 9.3 is an enhancement to Apple’s Maps app — known as Nearby, which allows users to search for a broader range of locations via the company’s home-brewed mapping software. And, as of Tuesday morning, the Silicon Valley tech-giant has officially updated its extensive list of iOS 9 features to reflect the addition of ‘Nearby’ and other topographical search utilities to more countries than ever before.

As of Tuesday, Apple Map’s ‘Nearby’ search feature is now available to users in Austria, Denmark, Japan, and Switzerland. Of course, these new locales are just the latest in the availability of Apple Map’s new features.

These countries join the likes of Australia, Canada, China, France, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, UK, and USA, where the helpful new feature had originally debuted. And thus, the list of supported locales where ‘Nearby’ is available is now up to a total of 13.

“But what is ‘Nearby’?” you might be wondering.

Well, essentially, Nearby is a new Apple Maps feature that provides users with close-by points of interest — such as restaurants, retail stores, banks and more — depending on their specified geographical region of interest. So, for instance, say you want to find a bakery cafe, or a bank, located within your general area. So long as you’re searching in one of the aforementioned locales, you can now simply zoom in on your area of preference, tap the search bar within Maps, select “Food,” for instance, and you’ll then be presented with an additional menu of options — including coffee shops, bakeries, desserts, fast food, and more.

In addition to the vastly enhanced Nearby search functionality, Apple has added a slew of countries that support its Flyover feature. These new Flyover locations include Augsburg, Braunschweig, and Hanover Germany, as well as Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and Niigata, Japan. Apple has also added support for obtaining traffic data in Turkey.

Flyover is also a cool new Maps feature in iOS 9, which allows users to view and discover a plethora of major metropolitan areas from the air — in photo-realistic, interactive 3D view. You can explore cities in vivid, high-resolution detail, as you zoom, pan, tilt, or rotate around the city and its various landmarks.

Flyover is also only available in select locales, however the list is growing with each passing week, and, so far, over 260 major cities around the world are already supporting the feature.
