All rumors point to Apple making a simpler, cheaper version of the HomePod that addresses some of the flaws in the first. However, there’s no sign that Apple is ready to release another HomePod and no reports on what it might look like. This is exactly why it would be such a great surprise release! Apple is already focusing more on Apple TV, Apple streaming, and of course, its split-apart iTunes apps. A HomePod speaker compatible with these devices and apps would have great synergy.

Apple also needs to claim its share of the smart speaker market before it’s too late. Smart assistant speakers have become trendy gifts around Christmas time, so Apple would be smart to release an improved HomePod early before the holidays begin.
