Owning a BlackBerry will leave you singing the blues, however.

While all hardcore Apple fans already know that iPhone owners are far cooler, more accomplished, more popular, and just generally nicer people than Android users, it now looks like some new research has appeared to back up that idea by demonstrating that users of Apple gear may actually get more traction on social dating sites too.

According to a new study by Comparemymobile.com, it turns out that users that have Apple gear visibly displayed in their dating profile photos get up to 76% more matches than those with competing devices.

In order to determine this interesting factoid, Comparemymobile.com actually took the trouble to create identical dating profiles on a range of different dating apps, in several cities around the world. In order to guarantee a controlled study, it was careful to use the same photos in each case with the only difference being the gear and logos that were on display.

After analyzing the results of more than 50,000 swipes, it found that those photos with a visible Apple product got consistently more positive hits than those where the person was showing other hardware — or even none at all.

In fact, it seems that those with a Google, Sony, Huawei, OnePlus, or BlackBerry device actually got fewer hits than users with no identifiable technology in their photos. Of the non-Apple hardware on display, only Samsung had a slightly positive effect with a 19% increase.

Every other brand had a negative impact, and perhaps not surprisingly, it’s toting a BlackBerry that will really kill your chances of scoring that perfect match, with the study showing that those users got 74% fewer hits on average.

Apple Watch and AirPods Score High Too

It wasn’t just phones, either, as the study found that users who were visibly sporting an Apple Watch did 61% better and those with AirPods showing in their profile photos made 41% more matches.

The study also looked at regional differences to see which devices had the biggest impact in each of the major cities it tested in. While Apple gear was the clear winner everywhere, AirPods did better in New York, while an iPhone 11 attracted more matches in London, Los Angeles, and Vancouver, and the Apple Watch was at the top of the list in San Francisco and Manchester.

Looking at gender and age demographics, although men weren’t immune to the effects of this, women were more likely to be swayed by Apple gear than men, and the impact was greatest on those under age 35.

Of course, neither of these results are all that surprising when you think about what people are most likely to be looking at in a dating profile, since Apple’s marketing has done a very good job over the years of connecting iPhone ownership with status and affluence, particularly among younger users.

In fact, as Rob Ballie from Comparemymobile told 9to5Mac, “younger singletons aged 35 and under were more likely to be influenced by the phone you have than the car you drive.”

Picking the wrong tech can have a detrimental effect on your love life. For instance, having a BlackBerry seems to be a surefire way to be left in the singles aisle, so if you’re in the market for both a new handset and a new partner, Apple might be the safest pick.

Whatever the reasons for this, it’s clear that folks who use Apple gear have more advantages than those who don’t, and all we can say to that is that we don’t make up the rules, we just get to enjoy them.
