The Apple Vision Pro represents the company’s first entirely new product category in quite some time. As with any major new product, there are also a ton of unanswered questions, at least for now.

One of the biggest of those questions is how you’ll be able to use the Apple Vision Pro with other Apple devices like your Mac.

Even though Apple hasn’t made any official statements yet, we already know a few things the Apple Vision Pro will be able to do alongside your Mac. Thanks to the marketing behind the Vision Pro, we already know Apple’s headset will be able to connect and work with your Mac, but the details on exactly how have been a bit sketchy. However, a report from MacRumors provides some additional insight based on code that’s been found in visionOS and the latest macOS releases.

Keep in mind that these new features will only work with Apple Silicon Macs. Unfortunately, if you have an Intel machine, you won’t be able to connect your Mac and the Vision Pro.

On the other hand, for those who are ready to shell out $3,499 for Apple’s new virtual and augmented reality headset, here’s how you can use it with your Mac.

Create a Mac Virtual Display

According to the report, the Apple Vision Pro will be able to create a Mac Virtual Display. As you can guess by its name, this is a virtual desktop that you’ll be able to see anywhere with the help of the Vision Pro.

You’ll be able to connect your Mac to the headset with AirPlay 2. Then, you’ll have the option to quite literally grab your Mac’s desktop and move it around wherever you want.

As Apple said, this will give you the option of having a 4K display that no one else can see. You’ll then, of course, be able to control it with gestures or your own Mac accessories, which we’ll talk about in a moment.

Use Your Mac And Vision Pro Together

Another cool feature coming with the Vision Pro will be the option to use both operating systems alongside one another.

This means that you can control the apps on your Mac and also use the apps on your Apple Vision Pro to boost your productivity.

As MacRumors puts it, “This will allow you to, for example, work on a Final Cut Pro project on an enormous Mac display while also viewing and interacting with separate screens displaying visionOS apps like Photos, Notes, Files, and so on.”

This will definitely make the Vision Pro more enticing for people with heavy workflows. After all, having the option of using multiple screens and apps at the same time and adjusting them to your own physical space will help you focus on your work like never before.

Show Your Work on Your Mac

Just because you’re using the Vision Pro doesn’t mean you can’t share your work with others. Another new feature in the Vision Pro will let you mirror whatever you’re looking at on your headset to your Mac.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you’ll only be able to see that content on your Mac; you’ll also be able to share your screen via AirPlay and FaceTime.

And while we don’t know just yet, it’s possible that there will be support for other video apps in the future, although that’s mostly speculation at this point.

Control Your Vision Pro With Your Mac Accessories

As you probably already know, you’ll be able to control your Apple Vision Pro with hand gestures. Not only that, but the headset will also have a virtual keyboard for you to type.

With that said, besides being able to connect the Vision Pro to your Mac, you’ll also be able to connect the Magic Trackpad, Magic Keyboard, and most likely the Magic Mouse to it as well.

This will basically turn your Vision Pro into a VR and AR Mac that you’ll be able to control with both physical accessories and hand gestures.

The Vision Pro Will Take Your Mac to the Next Level

While some people already believe that the Apple Vision Pro might become a Mac replacement for some people, the truth is that Apple might have created one of the best — and most expensive — Apple accessories to date.

All of these features sound fantastic, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We’ll surely find more features we didn’t even think about once we get to play with Apple Vision Pro.
