Please, Apple, Bring Proper Multitasking
The iPhone has gotten bigger and stronger over the years. The iPhone Pro Max models now give you nearly seven inches of screen space, and offer more power than most of us know what to do with — yet you still can’t put two regular apps on the screen at the same time.
Sure, the iPhone technically supports some forms of multitasking, like Picture in Picture and quickly hopping between recent apps. However, that’s not enough in 2026.
Nowadays, many Android phones — even the most basic ones — let you place two supported apps on the screen at once. You might keep YouTube playing on one half while browsing Reddit on the other, or open the Calculator app while looking at your budget.
This feature is extremely helpful for everyone. Students, professionals, parents, you name it. Nearly anyone can find a use for a split-screen.
Now, when it comes to the future, the rumors are bittersweet. Apple is reportedly bringing split screen to iOS 27, but it seems it’ll be exclusive to the upcoming foldable iPhone. That’s sort of understandable as a foldable pretty much demands it, but it still feels like a low blow.
If this is true, that means you’ll need to pay over $2,000 to get to use multitasking on your iPhone. Hopefully, Apple will add it to the regular iPhones, as it’s clearly not an issue of programming, hardware, or software.
Let’s cross our fingers, though, as there’s a slight chance Apple could surprise us next week. The company often holds back new iOS features until its September event to avoid revealing new hardware. The so-called “iPhone Ultra” foldable may be an open secret in the rumor mill, but Apple hasn’t acknowledged its existence — and it won’t until it takes the stage on September 9.
