The Android Team has announced that it has commenced releasing the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system to Nexus devices. The updates are predicted to roll out unevenly as various carriers launch them at different schedules. Recent Nexus products that are eligible for updates include the Nexus 6P, 5X, 6, 9, Nexus Player, and Pixel C tablet.

Other Android devices will likely be prompted to update by the end of this year or early next year. Developers were given a sneak peek of Nougat earlier this year to jumpstart app development for the new platform by the time of its commercial launch.

Some of Nougat’s new features and offerings that are being touted include a greater selection of emojis (over 1,500 including 72 new ones), split-screen multitasking capabilities, and quick-reply notifications, which allow you to respond to notifications without opening any app. Beyond these, Nougat also provides a wealth of other trimmings and added extras. Quick setting controls allows you to customize your frequently-used settings and apps, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Flashlight, so they are easier to access. Quick switch allows you to quickly toggle back and forth between your two most recently used apps by double-tapping the Overview button.

As far as gaming capacity goes, the Nougat was designed to support immersive experiences and compatible with VulkanTM, which is a 3D-rendering API, and Daydream, which is Google’s mobile virtual reality platform. Daydream headphones, headsets, and controllers are slated to launch later this year.

The upgrade is one any Android user would be wise to make, as it promises a more seamless and efficient quality of experience. Stay tuned to see when the update will be available to you.
