Even though it seems like the iPhone 6s just debuted (with the iPad Pro not too far behind), rumors and leaks have started circulating about what Apple has planned for the iPhone 7 and the iPad Air 3. Will they take any design elements from the Apple Watch? And will the headphone jack disappear? Will the tech be updated?

These questions (and more) are being asked by bloggers and Apple fans as the wait begins for the iPhone 7. However, research note from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that was obtained by MacRumors seems to say that the latest iPhone might actually be blocking tech from getting onto the new iPad.

ipad_air_3_iphone_7_2When the iPhone 6 launched, Apple introduced their innovative 3D Touch feature. 3D Touch is a game-changer in the mobile industry, giving users a multitude of functionality depending on how much pressure the user applies to their display. For instance, features like Peek and Pop are available through 3D Touch, and allow the user to preview and act on all types of content and apps.

According to Apple, “This brings a new dimension of functionality to the iPhone experience. And when you use 3D Touch, your iPhone responds with subtle taps. So not only will you see what a press can do — you’ll feel it.” However, it appears that this new technology will not be making it to the newest iPad Air.

According to the note, the iPad Air 3 will not contain the 3D Touch feature due to “production issues within Apple’s supply chain”. A source familiar on the subject said that Apple is currently having a hard time scaling up the 3D Touch tech to larger displays. However, they are hard at work, and sources anticipate that the tech will make its way to larger Apple devices after the iPhone 7 hits the market.

But not to fret: the iPhone 7 will most definitely have 3D Touch. It won’t, however, get a massive upgrade, but will have “similar technology and structure” to the iPhone 6s. Rumor has is that the newest iPhone could be making an appearance as early as September 2016.
