Here Are All of the New Products Apple DIDN’T Announce This Week

Apple this week debuted a slew of new devices, including vastly redesigned iPad Pro models, a refresh to the Mac mini, and a new and powerful 13-inch MacBook Air.
But while many of our predictions turned out to be true, there were just as many forecasted refreshes and updates that didn't make an appearance at the Oct. 30 event in New York City. Continue reading to learn about the most significant devices that Apple didn't announce this week.
6 AirPower and AirPods
At this point, it’s not a stretch to theorize that something is significantly wrong with Apple’s AirPower wireless charging mat.
The first-party accessory was debuted over a year ago. And yet the device failed to make an appearance at what is likely Apple’s last keynote event of the year.
Apple did not even mention AirPower at its event or give any sort of update, which could indicate that it’s still experiencing severe technical or engineering problems with the device.
It’s not clear when — or if — AirPower will actually launch, but Apple is quickly running out of time to debut the device in its original 2018 timeframe.
There is also a rumored update to AirPods in the works, but since the main feature of that refresh is an AirPower-compatible wireless charging case, the company may be holding off until it debuts AirPower.
5 MacBook Update
Apple, as expected, debuted a refresh to the 13-inch MacBook Air at its Brooklyn event this week.
That device is impressively powerful for an ultralight notebook — and that fact has brought the future of Apple’s 12-inch MacBook into question.
Before the event, rumors suggested that Apple would refresh the 12-inch MacBook. But at this point, Apple’s thinnest and lightest notebook doesn’t make sense with the company’s 2018 lineup.
The new 13-inch MacBook Air is more powerful than the MacBook, and yet it actually retails for less. In fact, the 2018 MacBook Air refresh is more like a “MacBook Pro Lite” than the 12-inch notebook.
We don’t know what Apple has in store for the MacBook, but right now, the only thing that distinguishes it is its size.
4 iMac
Like the 12-inch MacBook, a variety of rumors suggested that Apple’s iMac desktop lineup would see an incremental refresh in Brooklyn. That, of course, didn’t happen.
Details about a new iMac were vague, with most reports suggesting that it could sport significantly improved displays and new processors.
But with the lack of an update this week, it’s becoming unclear when Apple will refresh the lineup.
On the other hand, a 2018 update may still be on the table if Apple chooses to announce new iMacs via press release (like it did with the latest MacBook Pro models).
3 iPad mini
Of all Apple’s devices, the iPad mini seemed to be one of the most likely to be killed off soon.
And yet, just days before Apple’s October keynote, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that a new iPad mini device is actually in development at Cupertino.
Kuo did say he wasn’t certain that the new iPad mini would actually debut at the Oct. 30 event — and it didn’t.
If his reports are accurate, then we may see an iPad mini refresh launch via press release before the end of the year. On the other hand, it’s equally as likely that its debut could be pushed into 2019.
2 Missing Accessories
There are several accessories that are missing from Apple’s product lineup — and yesterday’s event didn’t help clarify where those accessories are.
Apple was widely expected to debut new clear cases for the iPhone XR. But those cases are still MIA.
Similarly, the company did not unveil any updated Smart Covers for its new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models.
We’re not sure if Smart Covers for the updated models are coming, but there are new Smart Folio and Smart Keyboard cases available for users interested in the new tablets.
1 Mac Pro (Teaser)
Apple is also working on a long-awaited update to its modular Mac Pro computer.
And while no one expected the machine to actually be announced at Apple’s Oct. 30 event, the company didn’t give a teaser or “first glimpse” at the new Mac Pro.
Because of that, we’ll just have to wait until next year to see what Apple has in store for the product segment.
