Should You Upgrade to the iPhone 12? 5 Reasons to Take the Plunge This Year

Every year, Apple brings us brand new iPhones that are more powerful, have better cameras, and are, overall, the next best things. While that's true most of the time, not everyone cares to upgrade each year. Some wait even longer to get the absolute most out of their current iPhones. While I can agree with this thought process, sooner or later, you're going to have to make a leap forward and buy a new iPhone.
Right now, with the introduction of the iPhone 12 lineup, you might be thinking about upgrading to get the latest and greatest from Apple. Or you might be thinking you'll get the newer iPhone 13 next year. If you're the latter, I'd recommend you make the change right now.
There are many reasons to upgrade and get the iPhone 12 instead of waiting for the iPhone 13, including future changes the next iPhone 13 might have that not everyone will love. Continue reading to browse five reasons right now is the time to upgrade.
It Actually Feels New
One of the iPhone 12's biggest changes is its design. Apple decided to go back to a design that's similar to the one found on the iPhone 5, while making it look more modern and classy. Sure, appearances aren't the only reason why you should buy something. Instead, you should look at its specifications and see how powerful it really is. But with the new iPhone 12, it's one of the most powerful devices available right now. Period. We've already seen how easily the regular iPhone 12 beats the Samsung Galaxy 20 Ultra, Samsung's most powerful flagship, in a speed test. And that was the iPhone 12, not even the iPhone 12 Pro Max. With an iPhone, you'll always get stellar performance, there's no doubt about that. But If you're buying an iPhone that looks and feels exactly like the one you currently have, then you might wonder if it's worth upgrading. With the iPhone 12's flat new design, you do feel like you're getting a brand new iPhone with a premium feel to it. Its fresh new look is something we haven't seen in the last few years.
MagSafe Is Changing the Game
MagSafe is the biggest new feature Apple introduced to the iPhone 12. Although, if you ask Tim Cook, he'll probably say the biggest thing was 5G. In case you don't know, MagSafe is a brand new feature for the iPhone, but we've seen it before in older Mac models. MagSafe lets you attach certain accessories to the back of the iPhone by using magnets. The magnets are strong enough to keep chargers and cases attached. Albeit, the MagSafe Wallets are having some issues currently.
The reason why MagSafe is a big deal is because it makes the iPhone 12 future proof. It's highly likely that Apple will focus more on MagSafe in years to come, especially considering that the next iPhone might be completely portless, but more on that later. If MagSafe is the future Apple is thinking of for the iPhone, then it's better to be prepared now, instead of having to deal with it in the future.
It Still Features a Port
It's funny how fast rumors spread these days. We didn't have to wait until the release of the iPhone 12 to start hearing about leaks and rumors for Apple's iPhone 13. Most of the leaks and rumors are still yet to be determined if they're factual or not, but the one that might actually be true is that the next iPhone will be totally portless, or at least one of them. That's right, Apple may prefer making an iPhone without any ports before using USB-C.
Several sources are saying that at least one of the next iPhone models won't have a Lightning connector, which indicates that Apple might be considering getting rid of it in all of the iPhones that come in the next few years. You think that's crazy? I bet that's how people felt when they heard about Apple ditching the headphone jack. But it did happen.
And with the introduction of MagSafe, it feels as though Apple is preparing us for another drastic change. Instead of dealing with that right now, you can get an iPhone that does both things. The iPhone 12 can charge with MagSafe, but you can still charge it with a Lightning cable.
It's Ready for the Future
As I mentioned before, the iPhone 12 is future-proof, but I'm not only talking about MagSafe. The iPhone as a whole is meant to last a long time. No matter how you look at it, if you buy an iPhone 12, you won't have to worry about any future changes that might happen in the next three to five years.
The iPhone 12 lineup is the first iPhone with 5G, which means that, when the technology is available everywhere, you'll already have an iPhone that takes advantage of it.
The A14 Bionic Chip is the most powerful one to date, and it'll like be just as powerful in the years to come. This guarantees your iPhone 12 will run smoothly and will support future software updates for the next five years, or maybe even more. For instance, the iPhone 6s still supports iOS 14 and it runs surprisingly well for a five-year-old iPhone.
And, as we talked about before, MagSafe will let you make use of whatever chargers and accessories Apple or any other third-party companies make in the future. With the iPhone 12 lineup, you'll be able to make the most out of everything the near future holds for the iPhone and the mobile industry as a whole.
There Are Many Great Deals on the iPhone 12
Although I believe the iPhone 12 lineup is the most desirable upgrade Apple has given us in years, it's okay if you don't want to get it right now. You can always wait for a few months. Next year, we'll start to see more used and refurbished iPhone 12 models that are even more affordable. That being said, if you're considering getting a new iPhone 12 earlier than that, the time couldn't be better. There are many deals and offers this year, thanks to Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and other carrier promotions. You can get yourself a brand new iPhone and still have money left to pair it with an Apple Watch.
The bottom line is this: If you want to be ready for the future and already have everything you need for the changes that may or may not come next year, any of the iPhone 12 models are a great choice. You don't even have to purchase the most expensive iPhone 12 Pro Max to enjoy most of the benefits we've talked about. Although the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max offer an even better camera system that'll let you take amazing pictures with LiDAR, which further future-proofs your smartphone.
With all of the iPhone 12's tech, you won't need to upgrade for the next few years, and you can rest assured that you'll still have a beautiful looking iPhone with killer performance that can handle any new apps (or accessories) you can throw at it.
