6 Apple Event Rumors That Didn’t Happen | Spring ’22
When it comes to Apple, rumors are a dime a dozen. There are a bunch of rumors about upcoming products that probably not even Apple knows it's working on. But to be fair, there are many times when rumors are actually correct. Apple's March Keynote was proof of that. There were a lot of products that we already knew were coming, thanks to leaks and rumors. With that said, rumors aren't always right. We were expecting a lot more surprises from Apple because of these leaks – that's not to say they won't happen, but the company didn't decide to show them off just yet. Continue reading to browse six rumors about Apple's Peek Performance event that just didn't happen.
We Didn't See a New MacBook Air
Perhaps the biggest upgrade a lot of us were waiting for was the MacBook Air. Apple is said to be working on a new, more powerful MacBook Air, and we were hoping to see it during the March event.
This new MacBook is said to feature a more powerful Apple Silicon chip, albeit we aren't sure if it's going to be an M2 chip or one of the M1 chips already available.
It's also said to come and come in a lot of different colors, similar to what we saw with the 2021 iMac. It's also expected to feature more ports compared to the current models.
Unfortunately, Apple didn't surprise us with this new MacBook Air, so we'll still have to wait to see it.
We Were Expecting a 13-Inch MacBook Pro
Just like Apple did back in 2020, we were expecting the company to reveal a new 13-inch MacBook Pro alongside the new MacBook Air.
Just like the rumored MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is said to feature an M2 chip which, according to rumors, it might be in its testing phase as we speak. Besides that, unfortunately, it seems like the new MacBook Pro won't have a lot of changes.
According to rumors, we won't see any major design changes for this MacBook Pro. Apple will most likely keep the same design as the current model, which is good news is you're not a fan of the notch on the new 14/16-inch Macbook Pro models. Besides that, it's also expected that we wouldn't see any mini-LED display on this model as Apple did with the 2021 MacBook Pro.
Still, we were expecting to see a new, more powerful MacBook Pro during the event, which of course, didn't happen. People who are looking to upgrade to a new 13-inch MacBook Pro might have to wait a bit longer.
We Wanted to See the New Mac mini
There have been countless rumors about a new Mac mini Apple is supposedly working on. Like other rumors on the list, the Mac mini is expected to feature a more powerful Apple Silicon processor, which we expect to be the M2.
According to rumors, Apple is planning on making the new Mac mini even smaller than the current model and feature a sleeker design. It might seem surprising, but Apple fans have already found a way to make the current Mac mini 78% smaller.
On top of that, we're expecting the new Mac mini to feature more ports on the back. Plus, it's expected that the Mac mini will come in different colors, similar to the 2021 iMac.
We've been expecting Apple to release this next-generation Mac mini since last year, and unfortunately, it hasn't happened yet. Who knows, maybe the 2022 WWDC is our time.
A New iPad Pro Was Supposed to Make Its Debut
Many rumors claimed we might see a new iPad Pro during Apple's Peek Performance event, which would make sense since the company released the current model around the same time last year.
Unfortunately for iPad Pro fans, that didn't happen. Instead, Apple released a new and more powerful iPad Air that features the M1 chip, supports 5G, and is way cheaper than the iPad Pro.
The good news is that, if the rumors are true, the new iPad Pro Apple might be working on will be even more powerful, will feature a better mini-LED display, and it might even support MagSafe like the iPhone and new MacBook Pros.
A New Mac Pro Was Supposed to Be Announced
Apple's been on an ongoing quest to switch from Intel processors to its very own Apple Silicon chips, and it's done a pretty amazing job thus far. However, it seems the company will leave the Mac Pro for last.
Instead of a new Mac Pro, Apple surprised us with an entirely new Mac, the Mac Studio. At first, this Mac looks like a Mac mini, but it's so much more powerful than that. It also features Apple's new M1 Ultra chip, which makes it 50% faster than the Mac Pro.
To be fair, Apple did mention the Mac Pro, but it confirmed that it's going to be a story for another time, so we'll have to wait to see what comes next. Let's just hope the newPro Display XDR comes with a stand this time around.
We Didn't See a New iMac Pro?
Apple discontinued the iMac Pro a couple of years ago, but many rumors still point out that Apple will revive this desktop sometime soon.
According to rumors, the new iMac Pro would feature a 27-inch display similar to the 2021 iMac and the Pro Display XDR. This means that the new iMac may come in different colors as well, albeit the bezels are said to be completely black.
And just like the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the iMac Pro is expected to feature a mini-LED display with ProMotion so it can reach a 120Hz refresh rate.
Many rumors said we would see this new iMac Pro during Apple's event, but sadly it didn't happen. It's still expected to be launched in 2022, so we'll just have to play the waiting game on this one.
