They're finally here! After months of rumors and speculation, Apple finally announced the new iPhone 13 lineup. Even though there weren't many changes on the outside, the iPhone 13 lineup still offers many new features and updates to make it worth the upgrade. From a bigger battery to better pictures, continue reading to browse 4 Features the iPhone 13 Has That the iPhone 12 Does Not.
Double the Base Storage
We've come a long way from the days that the iPhone came with 16GB of storage. Apple finally went all out in the storage department. Now, the iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 13 have double the base storage compared to their older counterparts. While the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini started with 64GB of storage, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini start with 128GB. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have the same base storage as the previous models. However, now both newer Pro models can go as high as 1TB of Storage. Meaning you won't have to worry about lack of storage ever again.
120 Hz ProMotion
Even though it's not a feature that's available on all iPhone 13 models, ProMotion is finally available on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. ProMotion is a feature that once was exclusive to the iPad Pro. This feature lets the display of the iPhone actively adjust its refresh rate from 10Hz all the way up to 120Hz based on how you're using your iPhone's display. You'll have smoother animations when you need them, but ProMotion will also drop the refresh rate when you don't so it doesn't waste battery life. Not that the new iPhones need help with battery life.
Apple likes to improve the iPhone's efficiency to save battery life instead of actually giving the iPhone a bigger battery. This time, however, the company finally packed a bigger battery on all iPhone 13 models. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't give us exact numbers on battery size.
- Instead, the company confirmed that the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 Pro will last 1.5 hours longer than their counterparts.
- On the other hand, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max will last up to 2.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 models.
Charging will remain the same on the iPhone 13 lineup as it was on the iPhone 12, so that won't change. Unfortunately, the iPhone 13 won't come with a charger either.
Better Zoom, Bigger Lenses, Cinematic Mode
The biggest change between the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 13 is in the cameras. No, Apple didn't just change the location of the lenses. There are also significant improvements that will let you take better, brighter pictures.
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini feature the biggest sensors Apple's used on a dual-camera iPhone. This will let the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini take pictures with up to 47% more light. Additionally, the Ultra Wide lens will also capture more details even in darker situations.
Both models now come with sensor-shift optical image stabilization, a feature that was exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro Max last year. The iPhone 13 Pro models also now come with a bigger main sensor that will let them take better low-light pictures.
The aperture on the iPhone 13 Pro's ultra-wide lens also increased, from f/2.4 the iPhone 12 had to f/1.8, which will also take brighter and more detailed pictures even in low light.
Finally, both Pro models also have 3x optical zoom, which is better than the 2.5x that the iPhone 12 Pro models have. And we couldn't forget Cinematic mode.
