AirTag 2
AirTags have been surprisingly more successful for Apple than anyone would’ve thought. However, Apple hasn’t upgraded its little tracker for quite some time. Fortunately, a second generation is reportedly in the works for 2025.
The biggest rumored change is a new Ultra Wideband chip that would offer up to three times the range of the current U1 chip. That means you can track lost items more precisely, even at greater distances.
Other leaks mention a tamper-proof speaker, which could prevent people from easily disabling the AirTag if it’s hidden in luggage or other important places, and would allow users to be safer in case someone wants to use an AirTag to stalk them.
Unfortunately, it appears that the design will remain the same, so be prepared to purchase a keychain to accompany your new AirTag. Either that or get ready to drill a hole into it.
Some rumors suggest that Apple is currently testing the second-generation AirTag and that we might still see it before the end of 2025.
