Halloween is just around the corner, and we can’t wait for it! But if Christmas has taught us anything, it’s that you don’t need to wait to start celebrating. You can get in the Halloween spirit right now by playing some horrifying games. The best part, you can play them right on your iPhone and iPad. So if you’re looking for something spooky to explore, or you’re just looking for something new to play, here are some great games you’ll love this October.

Five Nights at Freddy’s AR

Five Nights at Freddys AR iPhone

Whether you’re a fan of the FNAF series or not, you’ll love this augmented reality experience.

Unlike many other FNAF games, where you play in a restaurant, the threats are in your own home this time.

In Five Nights at Freddy’s AR, you’ll use your iPhone or iPad to see your surroundings. Of course, you’ll need to move quickly if you want to avoid getting attacked by one of the animatronics that is looming around your house.

What’s cool is that you can also collect items to build your very own animatronics, and you can even send them to friends or other players.

Lost Within

Lost Within for iPad

There’s nothing scarier than an abandoned asylum, and Lost Within takes that experience to your iPhone and iPad.

In Lost Within, you’ll be trapped in a deadly asylum where you’ll have to figure out ways to survive. You’re not on your own, though. You can also find items scattered throughout the asylum to craft your own weapons to defend yourself. Once you run out of weapons, running will be your only option.

You’ll need to find out what happened to the asylum if you want a chance to get out of it alive. As the game puts it, “There are many doors, but there is only one way out.”

Lifeline

Lifeline for iPhone

Okay, Lifeline isn’t necessarily a spooky game, but it does keep you on the edge of your seat.

Lifeline is a text-based adventure game where you’ll play as yourself. You’ll be contacted by Taylor, an astronaut whose ship just crashed into an unknown planet. You’ll help Taylor make the tough decisions, and every choice could kill him or help him escape this weird place.

Since the game is text-based, you’ll let your imagination go wild into the worst places possible, feeling dread and tension while you wait for Taylor’s response.

Plus, if you really love this game, the Lifeline series has many more games for you to try, with one more supposedly coming in the near future.

Year Walk

Year Walk for iPad

If you’re looking for an eerie experience and a classic spooky game, Year Walk is the game for you.

Explore scary environments and creepy creatures set in 19th century Sweden. Year Walk uses old Swedish folklore and takes it one step further by creating a dreadful first-person experience.

You’ll have to explore the forest, solve puzzles, and survive the supernatural experiences in order to see the future and figure out what happened on “that” New Year’s Eve.

If you want to take your experience to another level, there’s also a Year Walk Companion app that’ll explain to you more about the lore behind the game.

Simulacra

Simulacra for iPhone

Simulacra took the world by storm for how much of a creative adventure it was. Filled with cryptic messages and puzzles and a story that only gets spookier as you progress, Simulacra is the perfect game to play on Halloween.

You found Anna’s phone, and the first thing you know is that she’s missing and she’s asking for help. Of course, you don’t understand what happened, but you’ll need to dive into her cellphone, talk to her friends, and even fight against the supernatural to try to help her.

What’s cool is that the whole story takes place on her phone. You don’t walk or fight – all you do is check her phone to learn more about her.

The Rusty Lake Series

Rusty Lake for iPad

Last but not least, the Rusty Lake series. Rusty Lake is a series of games, and trust me, they’ll keep you hooked.

The games feature a series of puzzles in an escape room type of situation. You’ll have to move around a room and interact with every object in order to find a way to solve the many puzzles around you. As you move forward, things start to get creepier and darker. But the deeper you go, the more you know about the story behind it all.

Every game is dark and challenging, but if you’re into creepy environments, great stories, and puzzles, you’ll love any and every game of this series.
