Microsoft is rumored to have been busily toiling away at a PC to challenge Apple’s iMac line, which it will likely reveal at its upcoming October showcase.

Today a report has surfaced in the Economic Daily News (via DigiTimes) suggesting that Microsoft is preparing to announce its next generation Surface Pro series 2-in-1, notebooks, and Surface-brand all-in-one PCs. The kicker is that many of these products, which include the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2, will likely be built by Pegatron Technology. Pegatron is a Taiwanese manufacturer, known for being a part of the Apple supply chain, though it also has a history of working with Microsoft’s Surface brand.

Along with these products, Microsoft is also expected to introduce various upgrades and new functions for its Windows 10 operating system. DigiTimes also notes in the report that Microsoft will likely incorporate Intel’s Kaby Lake-based processors and bio-sensor technologies into the forthcoming Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2, which are slated for public release in early 2017.

The Surface-brand desktops are expected to come in 21-, 24-, and 27-inch models, all of which will feature a revamped mouse and keyboard, press-sensor stylus, and Perceptive Pixel multi-touch technology.

While this is all speculative at this point, Microsoft’s highly anticipated fall exposition should put the rumors to rest and give us a better idea of whether its modular PC is poised to challenge the iMac.
