Nintendo Unveils Two More Exciting Games for iPhone, Coming This Fall

Last March, Nintendo finally stopped clinging to the console gaming market, and began to embrace mobile games. In October of last year, Nintendo unveiled their first mobile gaming effort – Miitomo. The ‘game’, which released last month, allows its users to create virtual avatars of themselves, called “Miis”, that interact with other Miis online. While the Miis may be familiar to fans of the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS platforms, the announcement of the game drew quite a bit of criticism and disappointment from Nintendo fans who were excited for new Mario, Zelda, or Metroid offerings for their mobile devices.

While Miitomo hasn’t been a total flop – it has garnered 10 million users within the first month of its release – it still operates more like a social network than a real “game”. It has left many Nintendo fans itching for more traditional mobile gaming releases from the company. According to a recent press release from the company, that’s exactly what fans will get next.

Nintendo’s next two mobile titles are described as “pure gaming applications” with “more prominent game elements.” The company confirmed today that Fire Emblem, its popular RPG franchise, as well as the popular open-ended Animal Crossing series will be making their way to mobile devices.

Nintendo stated in a press release earlier today that the Fire Emblem mobile game will be made “more accessible in comparison to the Fire Emblem games for Nintendo’s dedicated gaming systems” while still offering the “great value of a role-playing strategy game.” The Animal Crossing mobile app will “be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems.

While no official release date for the two titles was officially mentioned, Nintendo did mention that they would be out this fall, and that the company will “provide more details about these applications closer to their launch period.” Nintendo is aiming to have five mobile titles available by March of 2017, all of which will be free. Longtime Nintendo graphic and game designer Hideki Konno will be heading overseeing Nintendo’s mobile gaming efforts. Konno has been with the company since 1986, and is responsible for directing and producing such titles as Super Mario Bros. 2, Ice Hockey, and many of the games in the Mario Kart series.
