Massive Leak Corroborates Four New iPad Pro Rumors
New iPad Pro models are coming alongside new Macs at a media event expected this month. We already know quite a bit about the 2018 iPad Pro lineup, which was originally expected to debut at Apple’s annual iPhone event. But a new report by 9to5Mac’s Guilherme Rambo, citing “sources familiar with the development” of the devices, may give us more details about the lineup.
It’s worth noting that Rambo previously discovered references to an “iPad2018Fall” lineup in the iOS 12.1 beta code, which makes a second fall event this year basically confirmed. Continue reading to learn about all of the new iPad Pro rumors that were corroborated this week.
4 New iPhone X-like Design, No Notch
The report corroborates several existing rumors that we’ve heard about the new iPad Pro models. They’ll come in two different display sizes, likely 11-inch and 12.9-inch in both Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + Cellular models.
The new iPad Pros will also adopt the edge-to-edge display design of the iPhone X, which includes killing off the Home button, as well as adopting gesture-based controls and Face ID.
But Apple’s new tablets will not have a notch, today’s report indicates. Despite having slimmer bezels (which could reduce the footprint of the 12.9-inch model), they will still be wide enough to house the TrueDepth Camera.
3 USB-C 4K Output, Magnetic Connector
The new iPad Pro models are rumored to be the first Apple products to ditch Lightning in favor of USB-C. Rambo’s sources corroborate that fact.
While that likely means bumps to data and charging speeds, it also expands the available accessories for the new tablets — bringing them closer in capabilities to computers.
That includes the ability to output 4K HDR video to external displays. Users can control resolution, HDR, brightness and other preferences, connected external displays via a new pane in Settings.
In addition to USB-C, the 2018 iPad Pro models will also feature a new connection system for accessories. Namely, the Magnetic Connector is placed on the back of the new models.
That will allow users to connect their Pro tablets to new versions of the Smart Keyboard, as well as third-party accessories.
2 New Apple Pencil
The 9to5Mac report also claims that a new version of the Apple Pencil stylus is coming.
That accessory will feature a new proximity-based connection system, meaning that the Apple Pencil will be able to seamlessly pair with an iPad Pro like how AirPods connect to iOS devices.
Users will also be able to switch between various devices without connecting the Apple Pencil to a charging port, the report adds.
1 Portrait and Landscape Face ID
Sources also suggest that Face ID will be available in both portrait and landscape mode on the new iPads, though it isn’t clear if this is because of a new hardware or software feature. The 2018 tablets will also sport the same image signal processor as Apple’s iPhone XS lineup.
