New iMessage Features
Another report states that iMessage will also receive a very deserving update. While the new features that could come to the app are not that innovative, they are things that other apps like Whatsapp and Slack already have, but iMessage needs.
First, iMessage would receive a “Mentions” system that would let people in a group chat tag a specific person by adding their name after using the @ sign. This would come in handy in group chats with a large number of people as it would give you name suggestions based on your contacts.
Another cool feature that seems to be coming to iMessage is the possibility to mark the last message you received from a group chat as unread after you opened it. If you don’t want to deal with a message at any given moment, you could mark it as unread so you still have the app reminding you to open it.
Finally, the final feature to be added is the possibility to “retract” messages. This basically means you’ll be able to delete a message before the other person reads it. After you retract it, though, a message will appear letting people know the message was deleted.
We don’t know if iMessage will give you a limited amount of time to delete or retract your message, like Whatsapp does, but it would be extremely helpful in many scenarios.
We don’t know exactly when the iOS 14 update is coming to Apple devices, or if any of these features will actually be available when it is released. But the leaks have been mostly correct so far. A good example is the release of the new iPad Pro with two cameras instead of three. For now, we can only wait for its release in the near future.
