watchOS 6 did away with extensions and brought standalone apps to the Watch platform. Details uncovered in iOS14 suggest Apple will continue this trend with watchOS 7. Going forward, all apps in watchOS 7 will not have an extension base. 

Apple is expected to unveil details about watchOS 7 at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference. watchOS likely won’t launch until the fall when new watch models are expected to be announced.
