5 Ways the New iPhone SE Improves on the iPhone 8
Apple today announced the new iPhone SE (2nd generation), which will replace the iPhone 8 in the company's smartphone lineup. The new iPhone still is technically an entry-level offering, but it is an improvement over the aging iPhone 8. Continue reading to browse five ways the new iPhone SE (2nd generation) is better than the iPhone 8.
New Photography Options
Apple claims the new camera system in the iPhone SE (2nd generation) is the "best single-camera system ever in an iPhone." Hardware-wise, the camera module in the iPhone SE (2nd generation) is basically the same as the iPhone 8.
Both phones offer a 12-megapixel wide lens with a wide f/1.8 aperture. The biggest difference between the phones is the engine that powers the camera.
The new A13 chipset in the iPhone SE opens the door for computational photography and more advanced photography options. iPhone SE owners now can take advantage of portrait mode, which was possible only on the iPhone 8 Plus and not the iPhone 8. There are six portrait lighting effects as well as advanced bokeh and depth controls. The iPhone SE (2nd generation) also includes Smart HDR and Quick Take video for even more creativity.
A13 Processor
First appearing in the iPhone 8, the A11 chipset was a significant step forward when it debuted with its custom GPU and neural engine, but that processor is getting long in the tooth. Enter the iPhone SE (2nd generation) with Apple's cutting edge A13 chipset. The latest and greatest mobile processor boasts of a cutting-edge 7nm process, impressive benchmarks, and improved power utilization. Everything from the camera to opening apps will be just as quick as the iPhone 11 Pro.
Haptic Touch
The display in the iPhone SE (2nd generation) rivals the iPhone 8 in most ways except one. Both phones have a 4.7-inch retina HD, True Tone display with the same contrast and brightness specifications. It's in the touch capability where the two phones differ. The iPhone 8 includes 3D touch which Apple is phasing out, while the iPhone SE (2nd generation) 2nd generation offers Haptic Touch with support for long pressing.
More Storage Capacities
While the iPhone 8 was available in either 64GB or 256GB options, the new iPhone SE (2nd generation) offers additional storage options up to 256GB. You now can choose between 64GB, 128GB or 256GB. More storage options may mean more room for games, photos, videos, files, and more on your iPhone at a lower cost.
Dual SIM
While the iPhone 8 has a single nano-SIM slot, the new iPhone SE allows you to use two different phone numbers thanks to its dual SIM support. It has both a nano-SIM slot and supports eSIM for calling.
