2 Enhanced IP68 Water- and Dust-Proofing
A popular feature brought to the iPhone 7 was a water- and dust-proof certification rating of IP67 from the International Electrochemical Commission (IEC). Essentially, what this indication means is that iPhone 7, 7 Plus, along with iPhone 8, 8 Plus and even iPhone X, are protected from internal damage in the event they are submerged under water at a depth of up to 3.26-feet (1 meter) for 30 minutes or longer.
The iPhone XS and XS Max have been bumped up in protection (and certification) to the IEC’s IP68 rating, meaning, in theory, that they can withstand even deeper submersion for a longer period of time — though the IEC has left it to each manufacturer to determine their device’s limits.
Funny thing is, Apple publicly claimed that its new iPhones are so incredibly water-resistant, they’re even beer-resistant, too, if you can imagine such a thing.. If not, feel free to check the beer test out for yourself!
