The Verdict:
The undisputed winner of 2025. Apple finally gave the people what they wanted.
Pros:
Finally includes 120Hz ProMotion; Always-on Display; massive front-camera upgrade with Center Stage for video calls.
Cons:
Still lacks the “Pro” telephoto lens; slightly slower wired charging than the Pro models.

The base iPhone 17 finally gives the base iPhone some true improvements that we fans wanted for years.

Apple’s A19 chip brings performance and efficiency improvements, and the display now uses tech that used to bereserved for Pro models. That’s right, you finally get ProMotion and an Always-on Display on the regular iPhone 17.

This change was long overdue, and it closed the gap between the Pro models and the cheaper alternative. These changes alone made the iPhone 17 the best iPhone of this year’s lineup.

But besides that, there were camera upgrades that focus on low-light performance and smarter computational photography. Plus, the front-facing camera got upgraded as well with Center Stage, which is a great upgrade if you love taking selfies or making video calls.
