New HomePod
The HomePod is one of those devices that Apple upgrades and forgets about until it’s time to upgrade it again. Luckily for HomePod lovers, Apple might give its home devices a little love in 2025.
The shape will likely stay the same, but the inside will probably improve a lot. Most reports point to a faster S-series processor — likely the S9 from the Apple Watch Series 9 — that will make it more powerful than the current model. Apple is also likely to use its new N1 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip here. While we don’t know specifics yet, new colors will probably be featured as well.
The stronger chip will help with Siri requests, multi-room playback, and the small bits of on-device Apple Intelligence that Apple continues to implement in all its products. Apple added a neural engine to the S9 for the Apple Watch Series 9 two years ago, so the HomePod mini could benefit from this new NPU power.
Apple’s upcoming HomePod software update is expected to introduce crossfade and enhanced voice controls for the HomePod and HomePod mini. With this update, Apple might be getting the current OS ready for an upcoming hardware update that could still land in your living room before the end of 2025.
