5 Super Mario Run
Mario is probably the best known video game character ever; and while Nintendo didn’t give us a platform or 3D adventure game, they did give us a casual runner that can be played with one hand. Guide Mario as he runs through side-scrolling worlds with just a tap of your finger.
Enter the world of Mario and smash goombas, collect coins, and takedown Mario’s greatest nemesis: Bowser. You can make Mario jump, spin, and flip as he collects mushrooms to change size and races against the clock to grab the flag at the end of the world.
Mario Run features different modes as well. In World Tour mode, Mario runs through 24 different courses to rescue — you guessed it — Princess Peach (I’m starting to see a trend here). The coins you collect and the challenges you complete will let you earn new items to decorate the Mushroom Kingdom. You can also unlock other playable characters such as Luigi, Yoshi, and Princess Peach. In addition to completing the courses and saving Peach, you can choose from three different difficulties each featuring a different color of coin. Collect all the coins of a particular color to unlock a corresponding pipe that leads to a secret level.
In Toad Rally Mode you can compete against friends and other players to see who can win the most coins and style points. As you run, different colored Toads will appear to cheer you on. The better you do, the more Toads come to cheer. Winning rallies will result in Toads coming to live in your kingdom. You will be able to expand your kingdom and purchase more items as more and more Toads come to stay.
In Remix 10 — the newest game mode — Mario is out to save another DID (Damsel-In-Distress). This time Daisy has lost her way and Mario must find and help her. This course consists of 10 short courses that are played back-to-back. It adds a new element of gameplay and shows that Nintendo is dedicated to adding new content and play styles in frequent updates.
Mario Run is free to start. To unlock all worlds and continue playing, a one-time in-app purchase of $9.99 is required. Mario Run is available on both iPhone and iPad.
