Bored? You’ll Want to Play These Excellent Games for Mac in 2021

When you think about gaming on a computer, you rarely think of a Mac. Let's face it; Macs typically aren't the best platforms for gaming. Whether we like it or not, PC computers are better for gaming because of how they're built, gaming-specific innovations and accessories, plus how easy they are to customize. Still, that doesn't mean you can't use your Mac or MacBook to play great games now and then.
If your Mac is powerful enough, you can run both simple and more demanding games as if you're using a PC (especially if you have a brand new M1 Mac). And there are more games available for your Mac than you probably think. You just need to know where to look. Fortunately, that's why we're here.
Continue reading to browse the best games for Mac you can play right now. Just remember, we're not including games from Apple Arcade this time.
Civilization VI

The Civilization games are some of the most popular in the world, and now you can play Civilization VI right on your Mac. As you can probably tell from the name, your goal is to create the greatest civilization history has ever seen. You need to use your wits and your resources carefully to try to build the perfect empire.
Remember, the choices you make will determine if you fail or not, but they can also change the course of the world ecosystem. Of course, you won't be the only one building an empire. There are other historical leaders from all over the world that you'll compete against to become the very best of the world.
BioShock Remastered

If you're in the mood for a game with more action and an amazing story, you can't go wrong with BioShock Remastered. This is the remastered version of the game that started an incredible franchise in the first-person shooter genre.
BioShock is set in the Rapture, a city that's found a way to live and prevail underwater. You'll play as Jack, the only survivor of an accident and you'll have to use everything at your disposal, from weapons to powerups that change your genetic code, in order to survive this fallen utopia.
If you didn't play BioShock back in 2007, now is the perfect chance to give it a try. Plus, if you want, you might prefer to get the BioShock Remastered Bundle, which also comes with BioShock 2.
Inside

One of the coolest and creepiest games available on the Mac App Store is definitely Inside. Inside is a game developed by the people behind Limbo, a similar platforming game that every scary game fan knows about.
You could say Limbo helped to shape the genre of spooky platforming games and Inside shares many of the great concepts from Limbo plus more.
You'll play as a kid who's trapped in the middle of a dark project. You don't know what's going on, but you need to keep moving if you want a chance to figure it out. Or a chance to survive.
You'll face many scary things in a dark, ominous world, and you'll have to solve many puzzles along the way while surviving at any cost.
Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is a perfect game to relax and enjoy country life without having to leave your home. You've inherited your grandfather's farm and now you'll need to use some tools and the help of nature to successfully live off the lands and turn the fields into your new home.
There's a lot to do in Stardew Valley, from cooking over 100 recipes to explore a vast underground cave and discover its hidden mysteries. You'll fight monsters, craft weapons and dig up some valuable gemstones. Or you can also farm, get married, and go fishing on a relaxing afternoon.
Stardew Valley offers the best of both worlds to keep you hooked for months and years, whether they are in-game years or real life.
Cuphead

If you're into difficult games, and you want to put your Mac and yourself to the test, then Cuphead is a great game to start. You've probably heard of Cuphead, as an extremely hard platforming game that came out a few years ago. Still, this game is as hard and as fun as ever.
You'll play as Cuphead or Mugman, and you'll embark on an adventure. You'll face many enemies and bosses that will make your life miserable, only so you have the slim chance to pay off your debt to the devil itself. It's more fun than it sounds, I swear. You'll face many levels filled with hard platforming sections and you'll fight a bunch of bosses, each one harder than the last.
What's cool about Cuphead is its style. The game is heavily inspired by cartoons from the 1930s, so the animations, movements, and characters will remind you of the golden age of cartoons. All while keeping a modern touch of high-quality graphics and different features like a multiplayer mode so you can play with a friend.
Undertale

Last but not least, one of the best 2D games of recent gaming history. We're obviously talking about Undertale, a game that took the world by storm almost five years ago. You know a game is amazing when, after five years, people are still talking about it. And that's what happened with Undertale. This game is an RPG but filled with mysteries, charming characters, and an amazing story that'll make you laugh, cry, and regret every decision you've made. Every in-game decision that is.
You play as a human who fell into a world filled with monsters. You're the only human and some monsters need you to complete their evil plans. You want to go home, but they'll do everything they can to stop that from happening. Unlike many games, your choices do matter in this game. There are over dozens of different possible endings you can achieve if you count all the different variations of the three main endings. It all depends on how you choose to play the game. You can choose to fight the monsters, or give them a compliment. Beware of what you say, though. You might end up dating a skeleton.
If you've never played Undertale before, now is a great chance to do it. You'll fall in love with the characters, the story, and the message of the game. Everything in the game is charming and charismatic, and it's a game worth experiencing.
