Apple Announces the Best Apps, Podcasts, Movies and More of 2018

Apple on Tuesday announced the apps, games, music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, books and audiobooks that made “shaped entertainment and culture around the world” in 2018.

5 Best Apps of 2018
According to Apple, the App Trend of the Year for 2018 is “Self-Care,” which includes various wellness apps like Fabulous, Shine, 10% Happier and Headspace.
Unsurprisingly, the Gaming Trend of the Year is “Battle Royale-style games,” driven by the popularity of Fortnite and PUBG Mobile.
Apple also highlighted the best apps and games in various categories, which can be seen below.

- Mac App of the Year - Pixelmator Pro

- Apple TV Game of the Year - Alto’s Odyssey
The Apple Watch didn’t get individual “Best of” app honors, but Apple did say that some of its favorite watchOS apps include Carrot Weather, Overcast and Lifesum.
4 Best Music of 2018 of 2018
As far as music, Apple Music editors awarded several honors to the “artists who truly represent the very best of 2018.” Artist of the Year went to Drake, while Breakout Artist of the Year was awarded to Juice WRLD. Cardi B’s “I Like It” won Song of the Year, while Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour nabbed Album of the Year.
3 Best Movies and TV Shows of 2018
The company named “Annihilation,” “Black Panther” and “Crazy Rich Asians” as some of the best movies of the year, while “The Americans,” “Atlanta” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” won similar honors for TV shows.
2 Best Podcasts of 2018
Apple said investigative journalism “underpinned” many of the best podcasts of the year, which include "In the Dark," "Caliphate," "Slow Burn," "The Daily" and "The Wilderness."
1 Best Books and Audiobooks of 2018
When it came to both books and audiobooks, Tayari Jones’ "American Marriage" won both the Book and Audiobook of the Year. But Apple also announced a handful of other fiction and nonfiction titles to mark the launch of its overhauled Apple Books platform.
