2 For the Adventurer: Pokémon Go
Who is it for? People who want to explore the outdoors while catching wild Pokémon.
If you haven’t heard of Pokémon Go you probably haven’t been outside lately. It’s a crazy popular Pokémon game, with an estimated 65 million monthly players. As of writing this, Pokémon Go rakes in $2.5 million per day.
Players can get some exercise while attempting to “catch ‘em all,” socialize while meeting new people at gym and raid battles, and level up to become “the very best, like no one ever was.” Pokémon appear in their native habitats so trainers will need to visit all sorts of environments to build their collection. Lakes, rivers, forests and deserts will all contain different types. Even the weather affects which Pokémon appear.
When a Pokémon appears, players can throw a Poké Ball to try and catch it. Players can opt to view Pokémon in the real world using augmented reality. Pokémon can be treated to candies, evolved into more powerful Pokémon, and traded with friends to increase your friendship levels. Friends can also send and receive gifts they acquire at Pokéstops.
Eggs can be collected on a player’s journey and like in the original handheld games they hatch based on the distance you walk. Certain eggs take longer to hatch than others and the Pokémon that can hatch from an egg vary depending on the egg’s color. Trainers can also compete in raid battles with other players to defeat and capture powerful Pokémon, including coveted legendary Pokémon like Moltres and Kyogre.
The game is free to download with in-app-purchases. It can be downloaded to iPhone and iPad; and, users can link their Apple Watch for the ultimate Pokémon workout.
