When it comes to internet calling, Skype is probably one of the first apps that come to mind. It was widely used back in the day but has lost some ground to newer apps like WhatsApp or FaceTim. Despite that, it’s still a solid choice for making free internet-based phone calls across borders.

One of the important things to keep in mind is that you’ll only be able to make calls to another Skype user for free.

If you want to call a cellular number or a landline, it’ll actually cost you. The invite process is also a bit clunky, and the platform may require that you download an app that you don’t already have on your devices.
