Xcode 15.2 reveals that Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro headset is equipped with 16GB of unified memory, according to MacRumors, which found files related to the headset revealing the unified memory size for the wearable device.

The publication’s finding in the latest version of Apple’s development tool suite confirms a June 2023 report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who said at that time that the Vision Pro would be equipped with 16GB of RAM. That was expected, as that was also the same amount of memory that was included in the Vision Pro headsets included in development kits distributed by Apple throughout 2023.

Apple recently released Xcode 15.2 to developers. The new version includes support for developing visionOS apps for the Vision Pro. Apple is now accepting submissions for Vision Pro apps for inclusion in the visionOS App Store. Apple has also said that it has over 150 3D movies and 250 games ready for the Vision Pro at release.

This week, Apple announced a February 2 release date for the Vision Pro in the United States. The headset will be powered by an M2 chip, which Apple says will deliver “powerful standalone performance.” The Vision Pro also includes an all-new R1 chip, which processes input from the headset’s five sensors, six microphones, and 12 cameras. Apple says content will feel “like it is appearing right in front of the user’s eyes.”

It should be noted that Apple has yet to share complete tech specs for the Vision Pro, but we’ll likely see full specs once the headset is released to the public — possibly even as soon as January 19 when pre-orders open.

Apple Vision Pro Reviews

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman earlier today tweeted (X’ed?) that Apple has a detailed plan for Apple Vision Pro reviews.

Gurman says YouTubers and members of the media that have been selected for reviews will meet with Apple for a hands-on experience with the headset on January 16. A follow-up meeting will then take place on January 23 to allow reviewers to go over the device a second time.

Apple will allow reviewers to publish their reviews at the end of January, a few days before the Vision Pro hits store shelves.

Apple traditionally keeps a firm hold on the review process when it comes to its devices and accessories, controlling the entire process along the way. Apple similarly locked down Vision Pro developer units in 2023.

Gurman reported in July 2023 that the kits were customized for a single developer, as a snug fit between the developer’s face and the Light Seal was required.

Apple Vision Pro headsets remained Apple-owned development devices and developers were required to keep the headsets in a private, secure workspace that was accessible only by developers who were approved to work with the unit.

Vision Pro developer kits were shipped in a lockable case that was required to be kept locked when the headset wasn’t in use, and the headsets were required to be kept in a secure location.

Apple will begin accepting pre-orders for the Vision Pro on Friday, January 19. The Vision Pro will then be available in-store on Friday, February 2. Apple will provide in-store demonstrations beginning that same day.
