Body Found at Apple Headquarters

Reports came in this morning that a dead body was found at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, CA. At this point, it’s believed the deceased was a male Apple employee. Authorities also reported that a gun was located near the body.

Sgt. Andrea Urena of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department spoke at a press conference held at the Apple campus this afternoon. “Through further investigation, [the Sheriff’s deputies] determined there was no other individuals involved and they believe it was an isolated incident. There was no one else on campus or in the public at risk,” she said. Sheriff’s officials later added that the Apple campus located at 1 Infinite Loop has remained open throughout the day.

Sgt. Urena went on to say that Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Apple’s headquarters this morning around 8:35 a.m. after receiving a call that a “person was down” at 1 Infinite Loop. She also stated, “when they got there, they determined he was deceased.” Sgt. Urena declined to comment on either the cause or manner of death.

The investigation has now been turned over to the county coroner who will be releasing more details at a later time. Sgt. Urena also declined to comment on whether the weapon was involved in the death and whether it was a suicide.

Website TMZ allegedly has obtained audio from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s dispatch recorded at 8:38 a.m. The audio seems to indicate that a female Apple employee was escorted out of a campus building by security this morning. Also, the recording indicates she had a head injury, which may have been from a gun. The dispatcher goes on to talk about a dead body that was found in one of the conference rooms. The recording further mentions there was a gun nearby the body. Sgt. Urena would not confirm any of the information in the audio, and at this point authorities have not released any details on how or if the woman is related to the man’s death.

Currently, the official report from the Sheriff’s office is the person found dead was a Hispanic male Apple employee, and there was no one else involved. Authorities have not made it clear why officers mentioned a female with a head wound in the dispatch audio. However, the recording allegedly obtained from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s dispatch appears to indicate the incident involved two people.

Once again, there is only speculation at this point as to what may have been the source of the incident. However, Apple released their Q2 earnings yesterday in which the company saw sales go down year-over-year is a variety of categories including iPhone, which is a first since its release in 2007. As a result, Apple’s stock plummeted overnight by more than 7% macerating the company’s value by more than $40 billion, which could’ve been a cause for the distress that seemed to unfold.
