Apple Music Gets Animated Album Art

9to5Mac

Apple released beta versions of iOS 14.3 and macOS 11.2 with an update for Apple Music. Both the desktop and mobile versions of Apple Music now have animated album covers, a feature that eventually will roll out publicly.

Users running iOS 14.3 beta first noticed the animated album art. According to a Reddit thread and other iOS 14.3 beta testers, these animated album covers appear to be enabled only for select artists in Apple’s music catalog, including Pearl Jam, Big Sean, and Future Utopia.

Those artists may only be the beginning. We expect to see this feature roll out to additional artists who support this feature in Apple Music.

This update follows a similar improvement to Apple Music earlier this year. When Apple released iOS 14, the company added animated cover art for playlists.

Apple released beta versions of both iOS 14.3 and macOS 11.1 earlier this week.

The latest iOS 14.3 beta added Apple ProRaw for the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. It also added some changes to Apple TV to support Apple Fitness+, which is rolling out next week.

macOS 11.1 beta contained updates that added support for the new M1 Macs.
