How to Create a Video from Your Live Photos

One of the coolest features on the iPhone is Live Photos, which lets you capture pictures with a splash of movement and sound.

Sometimes, you might want to save and share your Live Photos in a more universal format, like a video. The good news is that’s easy to do right from your iPhone (or iPad).

Whether you’re sharing on social media that doesn’t support Live Photos or creating a montage of memories, converting Live Photos to videos is a handy way to preserve and share them. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Tap Albums.
  3. Scroll down to Media Types.
  4. Select Live Photos.
  5. Tap Select in the top-right corner of your iPhone and select the Live Photos you want to merge into a video.
  1. Once you’ve selected some Live Photos, tap the icon with three dots in a circle at the bottom-right corner of your iPhone.
  2. In the pop-up menu, select Save as Video.

Depending on the number of photos you’ve selected, it may take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two to create the video. Once that’s done, you can view the video by going back to Albums and selecting Media Type under Videos.

Note that the video will be organized according to the date the photos were taken, so, don’t be surprised if you don’t see your video at the bottom of your timeline.

Editing Your Video

If you want to edit the video you’ve just created, the Photos app offers basic editing tools such as trim, which allows you to shorten the video. You can also adjust the color, add filters, crop the video, and mute the sound. Here’s how:

  1. Select the video you just created.
  2. Tap Edit in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Use the slider at the bottom to select the type of edits you’d like to make.
  4. Tap the speaker icon in the top-left of the screen to mute the video’s audio.

Live Photos are awesome and in our view, worth the additional storage space they consume. They help create more lively and vivid memories.

Unfortunately, support for Live Photos is limited beyond Apple devices. Videos, on the other hand, are widely supported on almost all platforms and devices. Test out this simple process to preserve your precious moments or make them more shareable!
