5 Excellent Reasons to Purchase the iPhone 7 Plus Instead of the Standard iPhone 7

When Apple unveiled its iPhone 7 line of devices earlier this month, the larger, 5.5-inch variant was the first among them to sell out — in all color options and storage capacities; while demand for the smaller, 4.7-inch variant was relatively mellow (at least from a statistical vantage point); which was interesting considering the larger iPhone is a full $120 more than its sibling…

“Why bother then?” one might wonder. “What makes the iPhone Plus so great for all that extra money?” Well, while there exist a myriad of good reasons to consider shelling out the extra cash for the larger iPhone 7 Plus, here are five of the most compelling.

1. Bigger Screen, More Pixels

Perhaps this one is a bit more obvious — the iPhone 7 Plus boasts a screen that’s considerably larger than its counterpart. But I also think you have to take into consideration what you’re getting with all that extra screen real estate — aside from the extra space, in and of itself. The 4.7-inch iPhone is equipped with a 750p high definition LCD display, clocking in at 750 x 1,330 pixels, or 326 pixel per inch (ppi). Not exactly the highest resolution around, even considering Apple’s ‘Retina’ quality designation. On the other hand, however, iPhone 7 Plus is outfitted with a (comparatively) generous 5.5-inch, full 1080p HD display, (1080 x 1920 pixels), which clocks in at 401 ppi.

Sure, even 1080p is somewhat aged, considering the myriad of advanced, QHD and 2K displays that some Android manufacturers are churning out these days. But if, like myself, you’re an iPhone person, through and through, the iPhone 7 Plus’ whopping 5.5-inch Wide Color, 1080p Retina display is a worthy reason to go for the gusto, in itself.

2. More RAM — Smoother, Faster, More Capable

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are both equipped with a generous 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, which is an impressive allotment particularly in light of iOS’ lean yet mean processing capabilities. However, the iPhone 7 Plus kicks things up a notch to 3 GB of RAM — while the standard iPhone 7 boasts the same, 2 GB as its predecessor.

What this means, in essence, is that the iPhone 7 Plus will load, run, and handle even the most demanding apps with ease — more efficiently then ever seen on an iPhone before. Couple that with Apple’s new quad-core A10 Fusion SoC, and you’re talking some serious power in the palm of your hand, my friends.

3. Bigger Battery = Longer Battery Life

The iPhone 7 Plus’ footprint is much larger than the standard iPhone 7’s, mostly due to the sheer disparity in display real estate. However, with a bigger footprint — and thus, more room on the inside — comes a bigger battery. How much bigger, you ask? Well, while the 4.7-incher’s battery clocks in at a 1,960 mAh — which is up from the 1,715 mAh juice box of its predecessor, the iPhone 7 Plus boasts a considerably more generous 2,910 mAh battery, up from 2,750 mAh on the iPhone 6s Plus. (Also worth considering is that Apple’s A10 Fusion SoC handles its extra power quite efficiently, so, while it varies based on individual usage patterns, the amount of time you’ll get from a full charge is also improved on the 7 and 7 Plus, respectively).

4. Better Stereo Speaker Quality

One of iPhone 7’s most polarizing new features (albeit at the expense of a 3.5mm headphone jack) is the new stereo speaker set up — essentially meaning that you now get two speakers, one on the top and one on the bottom of the device, which, in turn, means immersive audio quality when watching movies or playing games in landscape orientation.

In any case, while both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus feature a comparable stereo speaker set up, there’s really no argument that the audio quality on the 7 Plus is superior to that of its little brother. Don’t believe me? Head over to your local Apple store or wireless carrier and test them out yourself.

5. Lights, Camera, Action!

I may have left this for last, but it’s certainly a significant reason to shell out the extra cash. Apple went ahead and upgraded the camera modules on both of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus this year; however, the company’s all-new dual-lens set up exclusive to the 7 Plus, provides you with a substantially more powerful, robust, yet easy-to-use photo taking and video recording experience. Well worth the extra $120 that Apple is charging for it, if you ask me. To learn more about how this remarkable dual-lens camera works, check out our previous article here which breaks it all down.
