The iPhone X is setting new records as far as smartphone display performance, according to extensive testing conducted by DisplayMate Technologies.
According to the results of a study published Wednesday, the iPhone X has the “most innovative and high-performance smartphone display” that the firm has ever tested, earning the device DisplayMate’s highest ever A+ grade.
It also means that Apple’s premium 2018 handset has broken the record highs set by the iPhone 7’s display last year.
Among other categories, the iPhone X either matches or sets new display performance records for the following:
- The highest Absolute Color Accuracy for any Display which is Visually Indistinguishable from Perfect: 0.9JNCD.
- The highest Full-Screen Brightness for OLED Smartphones: 634 nits.
- The highest Full-Screen Contrast Rating in Ambient Light: 141.
- The highest Contrast Ratio: Infinite.
- The lowest Screen Reflectance: 4.5 percent.
- The smallest Brightness Variation with Viewing Angle: 22 percent.
The iPhone X’s True Tone display technology, Night Shift, Mobile HDR and 120 Hz touch refresh were also given a shoutout in DisplayMate’s study.
Coming from DisplayMate, the results are impressive. The firm has exhaustively tested a wide range of displays on the most popular flagship devices — from the Galaxy Note 8 to non-smartphone products like the Apple Watch — via objective and careful lab measurements and testing. With its extensive experience in display testing, users can rest assured that their review is pretty accurate.
Of course, DisplayMate did point out that Samsung developed and manufactured the OLED hardware in the latest Apple flagship — and it congratulated the display manufacturer accordingly. Notably, Samsung Display is currently the only OEM that can produce enough OLED panels to meet Apple’s demand.
But despite Samsung’s part in making the iPhone X’s display incredible, DisplayMate added that the most impressive part about the device’s OLED screen is Apple’s proprietary Precision Display Calibration. In its own words, DisplayMate wrote that the iPhone X sports a “superbly accurate, high performance, and gorgeous display.”
