Energy/oil corporation Chevron has recently announced on Twitter that they will be integrating the use of Apple Pay to their gas pumps by early 2015.
Apple Pay, the mobile payment system released this past October, is quickly becoming available in more and more locations across the United States. Now Chevron is joining the growing list of banks (such as Wells Fargo, Capital One, and Chase), department and clothing stores, restaurants, grocery stores, and more recently, sporting venues and even Disney World that accept the payment format. This past November, it was reported that Apple Pay transactions accounted for 1% of all digital transactions over the course of the month.
Although Apple Pay has been accepted inside Chevron and Texaco gas stations for some time, this announcement is the first plan to allow customers to use their mobile devices to pay at the actual pump. The company did clarify that the timeline was still unclear, but integration is expected to begin in early 2015. The convenience of this service is sure to be a hit among Apple users, and the incredible adoption rate of the service indicates that Apple Pay may quickly become the first widely used mobile payment service in the world.
